Zillio ~ Keep your Kid’s Math Skills Strong During Summer Break ~ Review and Giveaway [CLOSED]
“Investing in a toy that teaches math may make some children and grownups wince. It’s not exactly an action figure, a plush doll or an electronic toy.” But according to Kay Emerson, Zillio Founder, “conquering basic math skills really matters!”
With Summer Break upon us there is no better time than now to make sure your kids stay Sharp with their Math facts. Zillio will help keep it fun!
Mini Mountain
”This Mountain measures 18” in diameter and 8” high and is easily portable. The maximum height reached (peak elevation) is 36. It is exc
ellent for introducing and exploring even the most advanced concepts but it is more limited in developing fluency. The number of players varies by activity, from one to four. Hands-on activities and length of play are suited to beginning levels and skills as well as more advanced ones. Ages 4 to 94.”
2D Playground
”This colorful 2D version of our Mega Zillio can be used as a game board, a
poster, and a worksheet. Perfect for 2- 4 students to practice math facts and or play games to develop problem solving and reasoning skills. It measures 24″ by 24″ and is laminated. It has a picture of the Mountain with multiples on one side and without on the other. It comes with instructions, 3 dice, and 1 set of 12 foam cards with tokens.”
Our Experience:
My 10 year old nephew was staying with us for a few months. He has been behind in his class in a few subjects, math being one of them. So in addition to his normal 5 minutes of math practice time each night, his teacher was asking us to practice 10 more minutes in order to help him catch back up. We found this to be a struggle since he would always say he “was bored” or he “didn’t want to have to practice math”. That is when I was approached by Zillio to do a review. It was seriously perfect timing. I was so excited to when the package arrived, we were sent both the Mini Mountain and the 2D Playground to review. I couldn’t wait to introduce this fun way to learn and practice math to my nephew. Now I have to admit, once I started learning the games with my nephew I was embarrassed at how much I have forgotten since my school days. LOL! So
now I find myself relearning and freshening my math skills as well. That was something I should have but didn’t see coming. Pleasant Surprise. Both the Mini Mountain and 2D Playgrounds are great. The difference being that the 2D Playground is a poster form of the mountain. So it is smaller and easier to store. Where as the mountain is larger and takes up more space, but my nephew has had a lot of fun learning on both, and I feel both are wonderful math learning tools. And get this, when it is time to practice his math skills he doesn’t whine or complain, he actually gets excited about which game he will choose to play that night. Being able to touch and visually see math problems has helped him so much. His teacher said she could see an improvement in his “math facts” as she calls them, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome. We will definitely be continuing our Zillio Math Games each night throughout the summer break to make sure he is in tip top shape for the 5th grade!

As I am homeschooling my 7yo daughter she is presently learning her mulitplication table. She has mastered up to the 5s. This game would help her to continue learning and advancing to the upper levels inlcuding division.
I learned that using pattern recognition abilities at an early age, children develop a keen understanding of variables and how to manipulate them.
