The Beginning Reader’s Bible Review

bible

“Using actual Bible text from the International Children’s Bible® as well as prayers, memory verses, and fun activities, children will love this large format and be engrossed in the intricate detail of the illustrations. Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments are included and stories are accompanied by a prayer for the child to pray, a verse to memorize, and a fun activity to help them grow.”

We were able to review the Beginning Readers Bible.  It has beautiful illustrations throughout the book and our whole family enjoyed them very much.  It isn’t all the stories from the bible but rather some of the stories from the bible.  And I want to clarify what is meant by Beginning Readers Bible.  It isn’t that it is easy reading necessarily, but more that it is more for a beginning Bible reader.  Meaning the stories are easier to understand and are condensed.   Each story is short and only a few pages long (with a few paragraphs on a page), making them perfect for a child’s short attention span.  Also each story has tips on how you can remember God’s word, Pray God’s Word and Do God’s Word.  I really like those as they teach your child to apply God’s word in their own life.  I think this is a great book for family’s with small children, we use it to teach simple versions of the bible stories to our 3 year old and are very much enjoying it.

Dark Days of Supernatural~ Angelfire and Afterlife Book Reviews

Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton is about when ordinary seventeen-year-old Ellie starts seeing reapers—monstrous creatures who devour humans and send their souls to Hell—she finds herself on the front lines of a supernatural war between Angels and the Fallen, and faced with the possible destruction of her soul.

When I was reading this book, it reminded me a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer but with ghosts and demons.  If you were and are a fan of that, you are going to love this book.  There was a lot of fighting in this book, in my opinion, a little bit too much.  It was very cool though to have a girl being the hero instead of a guy.  My favorite parts of this book were the interactions between Ellie and her guardian Will.  Throughout the book, Ellie is afraid of losing the person she is and losing her normal life.  These were the moments that felt the most ’human’ to me.  I am interested in seeing where this series goes in the future.

Afterlife is the final book in the Evernight series by Claudia Gray.  Having become what they feared most, Bianca and Lucas now face a scary new reality. They must return to Evernight Academy.  But Lucas is haunted by demons, both personal and supernatural and Bianca must help him fight the evil inside him—and find the power to claim her destiny at last.

When I found out that this book was the last in a series, I hurried and rushed to my public library to get the first three.  I really had a lot of fun reading these books.  I zipped right through them.  They had romance and adventure.  Bianca and Lucas are like a Romeo and Juliet story.  They want to be together but because of family circumstances, they cannot be.  They have to fight for it.  It felt that this last book really wrapped up the series in a very satisfying way.  I was pleased at the end.

Both Angelfire and Afterlife are Young Adult books and I do recommend them for older kids.  There is some language and some sexual material-nothing explicit though.

Angelfire is available now in bookstores, on Amazon, and through Barnes and Noble.

Afterlife will be released on March 15th.  That gives you plenty of time to catch up on this series.  You can pre-order it here.

Along with The Bragging Mommy I also have a family blog.  I haven’t been very good at keeping up with it lately, but for the first couple years of Bug’s life I posted very regularly on it.  So it is a journal of Bug’s first couple years of life, in fact it’s better than a journal because it has pictures. It’s more of a journal scrapbook.  So I was thinking, “I wish I could have all this in a hard copy to look back at one day”.

Then I came across Blog2Print and I knew right them that I had to make my blog into a book.  Creating my blogbook on Blog2Print was so easy!  You just put in your blog info and password and Blog2Print pulls up your blog posts.  You can choose a time frame or pull up all your posts.  Then you can create your blogbook using whichever posts you want.  You can choose to remove posts, create your front and back covers, make a table of contents and more.  There are so many options for creating your blogbook as well as printing it.

20 page blogbooks start at just $20!  Here is an example of what the inside pages look like:

Also Blog2Print has 7 new enhancements that make your experience even better:

  • Added the ability to purchase a less expensive book by implementing a black and white print option.
  • Allowing users to update the table of contents features for more customization.
  • Created interactivity by offering a downloadable PDF file so users can retain the book on their hard drive.
  • Providing label support to correspond with the labels used in separate content online.
  • Allowing access to Blog2Print using Google Chrome to provide more efficient use of online time.
  • Supporting self hosted WordPress, the latest blogging platform.
  • Providing user with the choice of a black cover for their books, which was not a color option before.

When my Blogbook arrived I was so happy with the way it turned out.  The print quality is great.  It is a book that has so many cherished memories inside it.  I am so happy to have my blog printed into a book.  It is something I will be doing from now on.  Blog2Print does a wonderful job with taking your blog and making it into a blogbook!

If you didn’t have a chance to check out my review of the VTech V. Reader last dorayear you really should check it out. The VTech V Reader is a touch screen animated ebook system for kids. Franklin Electronics Any Book Reader Review

anybookAnyBook reader is a unique tool for children, parents and grandparents that helps make reading fun and more enjoyable. AnyBook reader uses a simple touch, record and playback process that allows you to read any story and record your own voice while you read it. This way, your child can hear your voice anytime they want to read.”anybook4

Read me a book! Do you ever hear that from your child? I do often, so the Any Book reader is a handy thing to have around! Sometimes I just don’t have time to read my girls a book right when they want me to. Now I can record their favorite book with the Any Book reader & they can listen anytime they want. It’s wonderful.

Anybook1

How does it work?

AnyBook reader uses a simple touch, record, and playback process. A special optical reader, built into the tip, reads unique codes imbedded in the designs of the stickers included with AnyBook reader. It’s similar to the way a scanner at the grocery store reads barcodes. Each sticker code is unique. When a voice recording is associated with a sticker placed on a page, AnyBook readerAnybook-Reader stores the recording and "remembers" which sticker has been associated with the recording. Touch the sticker again and AnyBook reader plays back the correct recording.”

So basically, we put a sticker on a page, activate the sticker with the reader, record ourselves reading that page, & it’s done. It takes a little bit of time in the beginning (depending on the length of your book), but once you’ve recorded your books, you children will love it! And the Anybook reader can help your child learn to read better if they already have the basics down.

Things that are BRAG WORTHY:

  • Comes in a 15 hour version or a 60 hour version
  • Read to your child even when you’re not there!
  • Works with ANY book you own
  • Stickers won’t harm your book & are re-usable (and they are included)
  • Easy for your child to use
  • Perfect for a parent who travels frequently or works late

Visit www.anybookreader.com to find out where to purchase this tool or to learn more! Also find them on Facebook & Twitter!

Lemony Snicket’s 13 Words Book Review and Priceless Giveaway [CLOSED]

“One of the most important jobs of a book is to show us the wonder of words.  But what happens when a legend in the art world teams up with a literary giant to create a completely unique, totally original word book? The result is the smart, funny and visually remarkable 13 Words by internationally bestselling author Lemony Snicket and acclaimed artist Maira Kalman.  Like many word books, 13 Words will introduce young readers to words like bird, cake, and dog. Unlike other word books, Lemony Snicket and Maira Kalman add their unique brand of whimsy and humor, so young readers will also discover words like haberdashery, panache, and Mezzo-Soprano!  Mr. Snicket weaves thirteen distinctive words into a strange and wonderful story, and the way in which this story blossoms into an entire quirky world in the hands of Ms. Kalman makes for quite a wild and memorable ride.  Critically acclaimed, Booklist’s enthusiastic review states that 13 Words”encourages participation on the part of both the readers and listeners to connect languages with images” and Publisher’s Weekly gave 13 Words a starred review, commenting that Maira’s illustrations are “gorgeous” and the her “Matisse-like, gelato-colored spreads drip in mystery.”

I love Lemony Snicket’s series, A Series of Unfortunate Events and was excited to discover that he had written a children’s picture book.  I love Lemony Snicket’s wit and dry humor.  13 Words is definitely one of the most interesting and unique children’s book I have ever read.

What I like is that he introduces and discusses 13 very different words in this book.  I was worried that it would just be very random and it really connects together as a story.  Two of my favorite words that are discussed in this book are despondent and haberdashery.  I had no clue what a haberdashery was until I read this book.

The book also has some really great pictures down my Maira Kalman.  They are very colorful and unique.  I had fun looking at all of the pictures.  I wish I had artistic talent like her.

This ‘quirky’ book will definitely be one of my new favorites in my bookshelf.

Make sure to check out the fun book trailer.  I was laughing really hard!

The Happy Hollisters Children’s Book Review

“In the 1960s, The Happy Hollisters was the best-selling series in the U.S. for children in the 7-11 age group, with lifetime sales of over 11,000,000 copies in eleven languages. Over one million children joined The Happy Hollisters Book Club in the 1950s and 1960s.  They joined for the excitement and mystery of the 33-volume adventure series, but many of them remained loyal fans through adulthood and became avid collectors, wistfully remembering the books’ wholesome quality and squeaky-clean fun.  These long-time fans have been clamoring for a return of the series for more than 30 years; now that time has come for them to share the series with their children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Andrew Svenson (Jerry West) researched and traveled extensively, giving The Happy Hollisters books an educational aspect that was appreciated by parents and teachers. Children loved the mystery and drama of the exciting cases that were solved by the children themselves. Svenson frequently said, “The trick in writing children’s books is to set up danger, mystery and excitement on page one. Force the kid to turn the page. . . Then in the middle of each chapter there’s a dramatic point of excitement, and at chapter’s end, a cliffhanger.” It’s a formula that has not gone out of style, and getting kids to read is more important now than ever.”

I was very excited to read The Happy Hollisters by Jerry West.  Just looking at the book reminded me of the fun classic books that I read as a little girl.  I was very pleased when I read this book.  I got that classic story feel as I was reading it.  It took me back to my childhood of reading similar stories like The Boxcar Children and Nancy Drew.

One thing that I liked about The Happy Hollisters was that there were a lot of different events happening in the book that all connected to the big story.  This was a mystery story as well.  The Hollisters family moves to a new town at the beginning of the story.  A moving van with all of the children’s toys ends up going missing.  Soon they discover that the toys have been stolen and they have to somehow get their toys back. Children can relate to many events that happen in this book.  The book talks about getting along with the members of your family, how to adjust when moving to a new place, making new friends, problem solving, and how to deal with a bully.

I was also excited to discover that this was only the first in a mystery series of books.  I am very interested in looking at all the others in the series.  They are definitely a fun, easy read.

If you are looking for a great children’s book that reminds you for the classic, feel good stories you read when you were little, The Happy Hollisters would be a great book to have you and your kids read!

The Happy Hollisters gets bragging rights!

The book is available for sale at www.Amazon.com and through the book’s website at www.TheHappyHollisters.com.

{Brag Worthy Christmas} Danny Birt’s Children’s Book Between a Roc and a Hard Place Review

“Given the choice of texting, tweeting or TV, today’s youngsters are purposely choosing to curl up with a good book!  It’s no wonder with the bevy of adventures and fantasies written for inquisitive young minds – the literary success of Artemis Fowl, Lemony Snicket and Harry Potter top the list. Cyberwizard Productions is adding one more title to the bookshelf, Danny Birt’s Between A Roc and A Hard Place.  With themes of abandonment, adoption and creating an inter-species family, the quick prose takes children outside their comfort level and stretches their imagination and vocabulary. But humor and detailed illustrations (by Swedish illustrator Richard Svensson) make this chapter book a quick read.”

I love fantasy books and I love books with a great message to recommend to others.  Between A Roc And A Hard Place is a book that fits into this category.

This book tells that story of a dragon who grows up with a family of a different species called Rocs (they are like giant birds).  Our dragon friend and the other characters in the book learn that a family is what you make it.  That it is ok to be different and love others even if they are not the same as you.

One thing that I liked about this book was the amount of description Mr. Birt puts into his characters.  As I was reading this book, I was in the story and could see what the animals and creatures looked like in my mind.  I also liked how the main character, Tephra, was a strong character and did not let the hard events in the story get in her way.  She stood up and took care of herself.  I love stories with strong, female characters.  This books is also a quick and easy read.  Once I got into this book, I could not put it down.  When I got to the end, I was really surprised because I could not believe the story was over already.  It had my complete focus and attention.  It is a fun, enjoyable, and simple read.

If you have children who are fans of fantasy children’s books, dragons, and just a fun, short story, Between A Roc And A Hard Place is a great book to look into for a Christmas gift!

{Brag Worthy Christmas} Little Star Book Review

“I think I understand!” Little Star cried out. “The baby Jesus is a king! He’s just little!”

    little star

“A king is about to be born! The stars in the heavens are competing to shine the brightest to celebrate his birth. But when they see the poor family, the donkey, the shabby stable, the stars all think, That can’t possibly be a king. We’ve been fooled.

    All except one.

The smallest, loneliest star in the sky, Little Star, is the only one to understand what the king was about to bring to the world. But what can Little Star do for him?

Certain to become a Christmas classic, this delightful tale connects the star atop our Christmas trees to the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus, in the hearts and minds of young children.”

    2010BragWorthyChristmas250x250

While I was growing up, we had a tradition where we received a new Christmas Book each year.  We kept each book we had received next to the tree. Throughout December we would read our Christmas books and I have very fond memories of this.  So I have started the tradition in my little family and we have been receiving new books each year.  When I saw the book Little Star, I new it was the perfect book to add this year.  Once I received it, bug and I sat on the couch and read it together.  I have to say this very sweet story made me get teary eyed.   Even 3 year old bug was able to understand it, and has asked me to read it to him several times since.  It has such a wonderful message and I recommend it this Christmas!  I am so glad to have this book in our Christmas Tradition Collection!

{Brag Worthy Christmas} Tidy Books Childrens Bookcase Review

    naturalchoosinglr

    logo

“The Perfect Children’s Bookcase- a design classic”

“This slimline and stylish bookcase is a practical storage solution that allows a large capacity of books to be displayed facing out. It has been designed to make it straightforward for children to pick and choose their books independently and put them back! The bookcase instantly brightens up any child’s room by displaying the beautiful artwork on kids’ books, making them completely accessible and fostering a love of books.”-Tidy Books website

bookcase_white_lowercase I have been wanting to get a bookcase for bug for a while now, I just couldn’t seem to find one that stood out to me.  That was until I came across Tidy Books Kids Bookcases.  These bookcases are perfect for displaying all your child’s books so that each books cover is shown.  Before we got our tidy books bookcase, bug didn’t want to read books as much.  I think it’s because having them stacked on a shelf in his closet just wasn’t appealing to him (since he couldn’t see each book).  When our bookcase arrived I put it together.  The assembly is really easy and the instructions are easy to understand.  It only took me about 30 minutes from start to finish.  Once it is all assembled you mount it to the wall to make it a safe sturdy shelf you won’t have to worry about falling.  Once it was mounted to the wall bug and I filled the shelves with all of his books.  He was so excited to have a bookshelf in his room, but even more that he could now see all of his books.  He spent the next little while sitting quietly in his room reading.  Something he had never done before we got our Tidy Books bookcase.  He is now regularly in his room quietly reading.  Having the books facing out on this bookshelf has made such a big difference.  I also love the bright and fun alphabet letters on our bookcase.  It adds color to bugs room and also provides a learning opportunity.  At night when we read stories before bed we sing the alphabet while pointing to each letter. I absolutely love our Tidy Books Bookcase and recommend anyone with children have one!home-bookcase-1

Vampire Boy’s Good Night Children’s Book Review and Trick-or-Treat Bag Giveaway

“This Halloween season, gather your little monsters and sink your teeth into a picture book just right for Halloween — Vampire Boy’s Good Night by New York Times best-selling illustrator Lisa Brown.    From the very first page, this tale is love at first bite! On October 31st when the sun goes down and everything’s “wonderfully cold and dark” vampire boy Bela wakes and, with his little witch friend Morgan, climbs on a broomstick and flies into the night in search of  elusive creatures known as “children.” But it’s Halloween night and what they find might surprise them!  Not too scary, not too sweet, Vampire Boy’s Good Night is sure to become a Hollow’s Eve tradition!  Publisher’s Weekly, which gave Vampire Boy’s Good Night a starred review, agrees:  “The lyrical, understated prose and clever outsider’s perspective on the holiday might make this a new seasonal favorite.”

I am always looking for fun holiday books and was very excited to read Vampire Boy’s Good Night.  I really like that this story is told from the point of view of a vampire child and his witch friend.  It was fun to read a book told from the perspective of a ‘monster child.’  When I read this book to my students, they thought it was silly that the little vampire boy (Bela) and his little Witch friend (Morgan) did not think children were real!  My students had nothing but good things to say about this book when we were done reading it!

My favorite part of this book were the illustrations done by Lisa Brown.  Her pictures were very detailed.  My class’s favorite was the picture of a little boy dressed up like a mummy.  The picture is detailed enough that you could tell that they used toilet paper for his costume.  As you are looking at the pictures, you can see what a wonderful imagination Ms. Brown has!

With the book, I also received a fun trick-or-treat bag (great place to put my candy for treat-or-treaters), a little flashlight (so I don’t get lost), vampire teeth (excited to wear these at school), and a fun door knob hanger.

If you are looking for a new Halloween book, Vampire Boy’s Good Night is a great book to add to your holiday collection!

HarperCollins Children’s Books is generously giving away a Vampire Boy’s Good Night trick-or-treat bag overflowing with goodies — including a copy of the book, a flashlight, glow in the dark fangs and a door knocker that warns all who enter “Shhhhh…a Vampire is Sleeping!” to one of our lucky readers!

Knuffle Bunny Free: An Unexpected Diversion Children’s Book Review and Knuffle Bunny Prize Pack Giveaway [CLOSED]

“Award-winning, bestselling author Mo Willems concludes one of the most beloved and celebrated picture book series of recent memory with the publication of KNUFFLE BUNNY FREE: AN UNEXPECTED DIVERSION, marking a triumphant end to the adventures of Trixie and her beloved stuffed bunny.  Having won two prestigious Caldecott Honor Awards for the first two titles in the series (Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale and Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity) and selling more than 750,000 books, the Knuffle Bunny series has earned its place in the hallowed halls of children’s literature — and a special place in the hearts of kids and their parents.

The epic conclusion, KNUFFLE BUNNY FREE takes readers around the world while following Trixie and her family as they embark on a trans-Atlantic trip filled with many traveling “firsts” – first time waiting in line at airport security, first time riding a plane, first time in Holland and first time trying coffee at the café (NOT GOOD!).  Trixie and her parent’s adventure to visit Oma and Opa is told with artwork (including a breathtaking foldout spread) and stunning photos alongside pitch-perfect text.  An ode to the joys and sorrows of growing up, this last book is Mo’s ultimate love letter to his daughter, the real-life Trixie.   Booklist’s starred review sums up this newest release perfectly: ““This denouement is enough to give you goose bumps, and young readers may be wiping the tears from their parents’ cheeks. Good night, Knuffle Bunny.”

One of my favorite authors to read to my kindergarten students are the books by Mo Willems.  My students and I are HUGE fans of his Knuffle Bunny series.  They are always asking for me to read Knuffle Bunny.  Once these books are read out loud in my room, at least one of my students will choose to check these books out as their library book for the week.  I actually sometimes have kids ‘racing’ to get them first.

As an adult, I absolutely love the Knuffle Bunny books and I was ecstatic when I received Knuffle Bunny Free: An Unexpected Diversion to review.  Once again, I loved the story of Trixie and her dilemma of being separated from her beloved bunny.  These stories make me remember some of my favorite toys from childhood.  In addition, I love the way Mo Willems illustrates this book.  He mixes his fun drawings with real photos of the world.  They are so fun to look at!  I was sad though at the end when I realized that this was going to be the last Knuffle Bunny book.  The ending is incredible and makes you a bit teary eyed.  Included with the book was my very own Knuffle Bunny.  I am excited to have Knuffle Bunny in my classroom for my students (and myself) to enjoy and love.

I definitely recommend Knuffle Bunny Free and the other books in this fantastic series.  They are a wonderful edition to any family’s library!  Knuffle Bunny Free can be purchased at stores such as Barnes and Noble and online at Amazon.com.

HarperCollins Children’s Books is generously giving away a copy of the book Knuffle Bunny Free: An Unexpected Diversion with a squeezably soft stuffed Knuffle Bunny, a luggage tag featuring Trixie and Knuffle Bunny, and a beautiful over-sized poster to one of our lucky readers!

Sock ‘n Boots Share By D. K. Smith Book Review + Contest

     sock n boots

    Meet Sock ‘n Boots:

    socknboots

The younger and more mischievous of the pair. Sock is a playful and very emotional little guy.

He is quick to look for fun but often finds trouble instead.

It’s not uncommon to see him shed a tear or two when things get tough.

His pal Boots always seems to be there to make him feel better and get him out of trouble.

bootsThe smartest little Boot you’ll ever get to know. He’s a little wiser than his younger friend Sock which makes them fit so well together.

He’s all for fun but manages to keep a level head.

Boots has a sweet tooth and can’t resist a nice big piece of chocolate cake.

He is everything a best friend is supposed to be.

    Our Review of the book:

    sock n boots

2 year old Bug loves books, so when Sock ‘n Boots Share arrived he was ready to read!  We sat together and read this very cute story about learning to share.  Bug immediately related to the characters as they are things he knows well.  The illustrations are so adorable, just look at them!  So cute!  The pages are bright and fun which bug really loves in a book.  But more importantly the message of this children’s book is a great life lesson that we all have to learn, sharing. And more importantly, the importance of sharing. Anyone who has a 2 year old (or knows one, or has been around one) knows that sharing is something that doesn’t happen easily.  So having this book helps me to teach bug about sharing in a way he will sit down and listen to.  In the book sock loses his lunch (it is eaten by birds) so Boots learns the importance of sharing, even if it means saying goodbye to some of his beloved chocolate cake.  I think this is a great book in that teaches life lessons in a way kids can understand and relate to.  Especially bug, he loves cake! He understands that is a sacrifice. LOL!

I can’t wait to see the other Sock ‘n Boots books when they are released!

National Geographic Kids Summer Boredom Buster Package Giveaway [CLOSED]

The dog days of summer are upon us and with the heat and humidity comes the inevitable complaint from pool-, playdate- and beach-weary kids — “I’m bored!!” National Geographic Children’s Books has the ultimate summer boredom busters — three books that are fun, interactive and – gasp! – educational (but don’t tell your kids that!):

    * Weird But True – Based upon the hugely popular page in the National Geographic Kids magazine, kids will definitely say “wow!,” “cool!” and “gross!” as they flip through the 301 outrageous facts and learn, for instance, that peanut butter can be converted into a diamond, an elephants tooth can weigh as much as a bowling ball and a dog can make about 100 different facial expressions!

    * The Big Book of Fun- Featuring National Geographic’s signature photography and vivid graphics, this interactive game book includes over 75 games, mazes, fill-in-the-blank stories, trivia tests and more.

    * National Geographic Kids Almanac 2011 – Introduced last year and updated for 2011, this best-selling almanac has quickly become the gold standard. Kids will love the more than 50 puzzles, projects ands cool experiments, the 500 pictures of our planet and all that’s on it and the more than 5,000 fun and amazing facts. Parents will love it because its chapters on science, geography and history — plus more than 15 homework-helper sections — is a terrific way to kick-start their kids’ brains as the new school year approaches.

I received 3 great books from National Geographic for Kids to review. My kids were excited because they are like their momma and love to read. YEAH! We had these books read in one day. It was easy because of how fun they were.

The first book we read was “Weird but true!” This is a fun book that gives you 300 outrageous facts, weird but true. Some of them are very strange and some are so funny. You will love this because you will hear your kids saying things like…. “Did you know that your eyes can move 80 times a second” , ” Hey, mom, cats can communicate with 16 know cat words”, ” Gorillas burg when their happy” and one we had fun with ” 99% of people cannot lick their own elbow, but 90% of you reading this will try!” That was hilarious watching them try to lick their elbows. This book was so fun to read that the kids retained the information. I love that. I know you will love having this in your house.

The second book we reviewed was “National Geographic Kids Almanac 2011″ What a fun filled book of facts and beautiful color photos too! And they even threw in a few games, puzzles and homework help for kids. Plus so much more cool stuff. My kids loved learning about bugs, the rain forest, maps, whether or not Bigfoot exists ;-) , how to write a country report and more. There is just too much cool stuff to share in one lil review. This is a must read for any family. A fun way to learn with your kids and a big help for school projects too!

The third book we were able to review was “The big book of Fun!” National Geographic for kids has made learning fun with this one. Oh my! You will want one for every kid and yourself too. I love these sorts of things. This book is full of boredom-busting games, jokes, puzzles, mazes and so much more fun stuff. This book includes more than 200 colorful photos and illustrations too! My kids really loved the Funny Fill-In, Superhero Surprise! It’s a story where they get to fill in the words with adjectives, household objects, animals and more. Here is a funny line they came up with. Their words in CAPS. ” Could this really be happening? Then I glimpsed my reflection in the TOILET (this was the word, kids!). I had grown muscles the size of HORSES and was wearing a BLUE and RED jumpsuit with a big C on the front.” Too Funny! The whole story was hilarious.

All in all, I think these books are definitely a must have for any family. You will have fun, laugh and spend time together all while learning really cool facts. Thanks National Geographic Kids. Another great selection of books for kids. We LOVED them!

VTech V. Reader Touch Screen Animated E-Book System Review and Giveaway [CLOSED]

“Since 1976, VTech has been developing high-quality, innovative, educational products for children from birth to preteen that deliver “smart play” through the combination of entertaining electronic formats and engaging, age-suitable content that help children learn while having fun.”- VTech Website

Reading is one of the most important skills we will ever teach our little ones.  So introducing reading in a fun way can make learning a really positive experience.  VTech’s new V. Reader is definitely a fun way for you to help your child learn to read.  I was sent the VTech V. Reader to review.
When it arrived I was excited to sit down with bug and see his reaction to it.  Of course he was excited to see his new Animated E-Book System . (He is really into electronics, LOL!).  He also loves books so this is combining two of his favorite things into one.  It will read the story to your child highlighting each words as it is read.  Your child can pause the story at any time by touching the screen.  If they touch the characters on the screen they will move or make noise, if they touch a word it will pronounce it for them.  It isn’t just for teaching your child to read either, it also keeps your older child’s reading skills sharp as well as tests their understanding of what they are reading. It comes with one book but you can purchase more books and downloads.  They have classic books like The Little Engine That Could, as well as books staring your child’s favorite characters like Scooby Doo & the Gang, Toy Story, Olivia, Shrek, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and more!  Our V. Reader has come in very handy on our last road trip.  It keeps bugs attention and gives him something fun to do while driving in the car.  We can’t wait to buy more stories! This is a great toy for teaching reading skills to your child!

    Things that are Brag Worthy:

    • Plays fully animated stories with story narration, character voices, vivid graphics and exciting music and sounds!
    • It has interactive stories with a touch screen play.
    • Lots of fun games are available for purchase such as  Toy Story, Shrek, Dora, Mickey Mouse Club House and  more.
    • Downloadable Content: Additional games and content will be available soon for download .
    • Ideal for kids who are learning to read.
    • It is available in blue or pink.

You can buy your own VTech V. Reader in stores at Walmart, Target, Toys”R”Us or online at Amazon

{Brag Worthy Summer!} Reading, Daniel Boom aka Loud Boy Series Books Prize Pack Review and Giveaway [CLOSED]

The Adventures of Daniel Boom aka Loud Boy series is a perfect summer reading pick – it features storylines that are bursting with superheroes, belly laughs and action packed adventure AND is critically acclaimed by numerous education and library trade publications (but don’t tell kids that!). Author D.J. Steinberg’s writing is smart and funny with puns a-plenty and the kid-friendly graphic novel format is ideal for middle graders and reluctant readers.

A terrific series for every child who loves Diary of a Wimpy Kid and then asks, “what should I read next?,” Daniel Boom and his friends channel their tendencies to throw tantrums, talk too much and too loud, fidget and cause chaos wherever they go into superpowers that help save the world. What nine year old wouldn’t delight in a story that makes the very behavior they get disciplined for (Sit down! Stop talking! Be quiet!) the key to foiling evil plots for global domination???

Loud Boy and his superhero friends is perfect for the camp care package and an effective deterrent to the dreaded question every parent gets on the annual family road trip – “are we there yet?”

When my son got The Adventures of Daniel Boom aka Loud Boy in the mail he was so excited. He immediately took them to school to see if they were on his AR list. They were! He read them so quickly. All four of them. WOW! My son is not a big fan of reading, so this amazed me. These books are colorful, fun and hilarious too! Your kids will have fun reading these over and over and will be talking about them for days after. My daughter got the Daniel Boom bug too! LOL She was addicted to the books as well. It was great seeing the two of them talk about what happened in the book and replaying some of the things they read. It’s always nice when you can get your kids to play nicely together. We were very impressed with this series of books and can’t wait to get the next one. My son also received a back pack and water bottle with this review. Which he loves. Oh and I can’t forget the flashlight and some funky nose coat for under the covers reading. Funny! We definitely recommend you get these children’s books for your kids. They would make a great gift too!

    Things that are Brag Worthy…

    • Great book series for any kids who loves to read
    • Will help you kids to love reading, it’s so good
    • Colorful
    • Great artwork
    • Perfect book series for your kids to read this summer

One winner will receive a Daniel Boom backpack stuffed with all the summer reading essentials: the complete Adventures of Daniel Boom aka Loud Boy series (4 books!), a Daniel Boom water bottle, a mini flashlight for reading under the covers, and funky nose coat – ‘cuz just because their nose will be stuck in a book doesn’t mean it needs to get burned!

Your Baby Can Read Volume One Review and Giveaway [CLOSED]

781f419328a03b5cca60f110_L Leah has been talking for quite a while now and she says lots of words BUT she can’t read yet! I was so excited to be able to review Your Baby Can read Volume 1 and couldn’t wait to get started.

I was sent the Your Baby Can Read starter kit which includes the DVD, Sliding Word Cards, Workshop CD and Book #1 along with a Parent’s overview. The starter kit is a great way to teach your baby to read and recognize words, phrases etc. It is so easy to use and really fun too!

41PErsBHIbL__SS500_ It doesn’t matter how old your child is, you want to always start with Volume 1 which  helps the child and the parent understand how it all works and introduces 22 new words!

I really wish I would have started this earlier, I have always wanted to try it but just never bought it. Leah really liked how interactive the DVD is BUT she is almost 2 and doesn’t have that great of an attention span. BUT she loved watching the babies and doing the actions with them on screen. I love how the DVD interacted with Leah and how much fun the songs are.

This really is an early language development system, your Baby CAN Learn to Read and communicate so much quicker!

“Dr. Titzer says the current practice of starting to teach reading skills in school is too late and children benefit greatly from getting a much earlier start since a child basically has only one natural window for learning language — from about reading_grade_level birth to about age four. During this period it is easier for a child to learn any type of language including spoken, receptive, foreign and written language. The earlier the child is taught to read the better they will read and the more likely they will enjoy it.
Studies prove that the earlier a child learns to read, the better they perform in school and later in life. Early readers have more self-esteem and are more likely to stay in school. Meanwhile, a national panel of reading specialists and educators determined that most of the nation’s reading problems could be eliminated if children began reading earlier.
n46680126222_5356 Maybe the correct question is…Why should a parent delay teaching a child to read when the most natural time to learn language is during the infant and toddler years?” (Your Baby Can Read website)

I was talking to my sister in law the other day about Your Baby Can Read and she had purchased it for her twin girls and LOVES it! She really likes all of the cute songs and how innovative these cd’s really are.

    Things that are Bragworthy:

    • Will help your baby, toddler and child communicate better and quicker!
    • No more frustrations when your baby is trying to tell you something
    • Your Baby will be reading…Yes I said reading!
    • Leah loves it and so will your baby!
    • Your children will enjoy reading and learning

    Generous Kids Book Review

     bookcover1

Have you ever met a child that loves to share? That he/she cares so much about another friend that they are always willing to help out and be kind, loving, caring and sharing? I have now! Their names are Genna and Russ and they are the Twin Generous Kids! These cute twins are going to teach your child how to be generous just like them!

I was really excited to receive this book and couldn’t wait to read it. I love reading new books to Leah especially if they teach her a lesson. This book is all about sharing and be kind to others. I love how the book talks about each left-storything the twins love to do like playing soccer, swimming, biking, skating in winter etc. “But their favorite game, they discovered one day, comes from  caring and sharing- A new kind of play!” (excerpt from the Generous Kids Book by Sarah Wilson)

Leah really loved this book and how colorful and fun all of the pages and animals are.

This is a terrific educational book that not only will your toddler love but your older kids also.

“Generous Kids is an organization dedicated to encouraging the spirit of caring, giving and sharing in young children (though we hope to remind adults of the magnitude of importance of honoring these values too). Kids by nature are kind, gentle beings. They’re also innocent and highly impressionable. By left-gooddeed reinforcing the concept of generosity at an early age, caring becomes a characteristic they carry into adulthood. After all, the delight of giving is as wondrous as the joy of receiving.

The Generous Kids mission is to:

    • Provide parents and caregivers with the tools to foster the innate virtues of caring, giving and sharing.
    • Make a positive difference in the lives of all children in need – regardless of race, color or creed – through the donation of monies from the sale of every item sold that carries the Generous Kids logo.

Generous Kids is personified through Genna and Russ, brother and sister kids (in fact, they really are kids … they’re little goats!), who teach real life lessonsleftpanel in generosity and kindness. Through their adventures they encounter all types of animals in need of help. The kindness and respect they show to all is rewarded with friendship.” (Generous Kids website

    Things that are Bragworthy:
