My Favorite Scents Fresh From Nature

The sense of smell is such a powerful memory trigger for me. I will smell things and it will take me back to my childhood or back to a specific memory. All based on a smell. I think it is incredible how our memories are tied so strongly to our sense of smell.

My favorite scents by far are the scents fresh from nature. I absolutely love the way it smells after it has rained. I love to just sit outside enjoying the smell. It is so fresh and such a great nature smell. Honestly if outside could smell like it just rained all the time I don’t think I would ever be indoors

I also love the smell of the forest. When I was younger we went camping a lot and I went into the mountains with my dad to chop firewood. When I am in the mountains with all the wonderful smells it takes me back to those times with my dad and my family. We had so much fun camping and spending one on one quality time with my dad in the mountains was so special to me. Being able to have the memories come back to me so strong because of the scents is priceless to me.

Another smell I love is Fresh Raspberries. My parents have a ton of raspberry bushes in their back yard and we love to go out and pick the fresh berries. They are so delicious and the smell is so amazing. So fresh, so sweet. I love love love it.

I love babies. They are so sweet and cute and they smell so great! To me there isn’t a better smell in the world than a freshly cleaned baby. Whenever I get to chance to hold and cuddle a baby I will not pass up the opportunity. For me now that Bug is getting older I miss his baby days. So when I hold a baby now and I smell that sweet baby smell it takes me back to when Bug was a baby and those are some of the most fond memories I have.

Laundry Tips and Tricks

I just love doing laundry now that I have my Duet Washer and Dryer Pair from Whirlpool. I thought I would share a few tips & tricks I have learned for doing laundry:

Keep your blacks black and your colors bright!

It is always smart to make sure you are using the proper cycles for the clothes you are washing. Make sure you know which cycles are best for certain colors and fabrics. I love that my Duet Washer has Smart temperature control which helps reduce shrinking and color bleeding. It also offers 14 specialty fabric care cycles! So I can easily find the best cycle for the load I’m washing. And the “Care control temperature management enabled by 6th Sense technology helps protect your clothes by controlling water amount and temperature.” I love how easy the Duet Washer makes doing laundry

Keep Sheets & Blankets from Balling Up-

“When you are removing the bed sheet from the washer, Tre likes to give the sheets a quick snap before them into the dryer. This should help the items from not balling up and dry more evenly. He suggests drying items of equal weight, so try to wash/dry your fitted and flat sheets together, but leave the blanket and towels for a different load.”-Whirlpool Fabric Expert Tre

Avoid a Stinky Washer-

Much like a top loader, a front loader washing machine requires that you leave the door open after a cycle. This will ensure that it completely dries out and you will avoid the stinky mildew smell that comes if you shut it and don’t allow it to dry.

To Remove Blood Stains-

“Rinse the garment in cold water and treat it with a color-safe bleach like Oxi or hydrogen peroxide.”-Whirlpool Fabric Expert Tre

To Remove Grease Stains-

“If you have grease on your clothes, I recommend pre-treating with a pre-treater and rubbing it in. If you are out to eat and drop something on your clothes, I recommend using club soda at the restaurant to help start the stain removal process. The longer a grease stain sits, the more difficult it can become because it continues to oxidize and actually changes the chemical form of the stain. One thing I would like to stress is to be careful with "clear" stains, such as white wine, champagne, white grape juice, etc. because they can oxidize as well and will eventually turn brown.”-Whirlpool Fabric Expert Tre

Clean Your Washer-

One thing that I have recently learned is that your washer needs to be cleaned regularly. It makes sense when I think about it, I just never knew until now. You can buy affresh Washing Machine Cleaner and run it in your washer regularly to keep it working at it’s best and cleanest capacity. I love that my New Whirlpool Duet Washer has a cleaning cycle. It’s so nice! I notice a difference when I use the aafresh cleaner in my washer. I highly recommend using it regularly in your washer.

Clean Your Dryer-

You don’t have to run a cycle to clean your dryer. But you do need to make sure you are emptying the lint trap after each load you dry. You also need to clean the trap every couple months to prevent build up. Follow these easy steps:

1. Roll lint off the screen with your fingers.

2. Wet both sides of lint screen with hot water.

3. Wet a nylon brush with hot water and liquid detergent. Scrub lint screen with the brush to remove residue buildup.

4. Rinse screen with hot water.

5. Thoroughly dry lint screen with a clean towel.

Use the Proper Products and Amounts-

Using too much detergent isn’t good for your clothes. Even worse, it’s bad for your wallet since you have to buy more. You really only need the amount that the bottle says. Most detergents now are strong enough that you only need a little. I can’t begin to tell you how much I love the feature of the The Precision Dispense Ultra system in my duet washer. It releases only the amount of detergent needed for the load. Yes, it senses the load and then decides how much to use. Love that it takes the measuring out of the equation for me. It also releases bleach and fabric softener at the right time during the cycle for optimal fabric care. This is one smart washer!

I was really excited to receive a personalized stamp from PJ Greetings! I was initially going to choose a stamp that had our address on it, but with my husband finishing school in about 8 months, I am not sure where we will end up living. I didn’t want to only be able to use the stamp until we moved, so I decided on a different one. Since I send out a Christmas card every year, I thought a holiday stamp would be perfect to use on the envelopes. Wow this is a fun product! The Boogie Board LCD Tablet is perfect for kids (or adults) who love to draw. Bug enjoys drawing a lot. So when he saw this new drawing board he thought it was pretty cool (and still does). What’s great is it comes with a stylus that makes it so it’s like you are drawing with a pen or pencil. Very cool. Super easy to use, and with the press of a button it erases like magic! I love that it saves so much paper, environmentally friendly is awesome! But my favorite use for this is with Bug while we travel. It is perfect for in the car, while running errands, at the doctors office, etc…it keeps him occupied and he really enjoys drawing on it. It is the perfect size for putting in my purse as well making it really convenient to bring along.

What’s Not to Love About the Energy Efficient Whirlpool Duet Laundry Pair?!

Laundry has always been one of those chores I dread. Ahhhhhh I have to do the laundry ugggghhh! But now that I have the fabulous Whirlpool Duet laundry pair. I find myself happier to do laundry.

First off I spend a lot less time doing laundry now than before. Not because I’m making the kids or my hubby do it. But because the Duet pair is so efficient! The washer has faster spin speeds and the dryer has sensors that know when the clothes are dry, and once they are dry it turns off. I find that I can wash and dry a lot more loads in one day then I ever could with my old washer and dryer. I am loving having extra time to get other things done. A big reason why I dreaded laundry is because of how much time it took out of my day. Now that I can do it so much faster I am a much happier Laundry Mama!

Another great thing about this pair is how energy efficient they are. “This Energy Efficient washer uses as little as 11.5 gallons of water per load and exceeds minimum federal standard for energy selling requirements by more the 160%, on average.”

(It will eventually stop, it won’t do it all day or anything). But I love it because often times I am busy with other things and can’t get to the dryer right away. Even when that is the case I am able to pull out clothes that are wrinkle free.

Get Your Sew On ~ Ruffle Fabric Review and Giveaway [CLOSED]

I LOVE fabric!!! Much to the dismay of my husband, I can spend a long time in a really great fabric store. I can also spend a lot of time looking at fabric online. When I came across Ruffle Fabric, there was some serious swooning going on. I am getting excited just thinking about it!

I knew I needed some of that fabric! Lucky for me, Ruffle fabric was kind enough to send me 1 1/2 yards of two cute fabrics. I chose the Buttercup Yellow & White Striped Cascading Ruffle Fabric and the Bright Key Lime Green & White Striped Cascading Ruffle Fabric. I was so excited when they came in the mail and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

The fabrics are a combination of 74% Polyester, 25% Nylon, and 1% spandex. The colors are so bright and fun, and the fabric is slightly stretchy so it will be perfect for a skirt!! I can’t wait to make one for each of my girls. They will be so happy! I love that this fabric is pre-ruffled so it saves a lot of time for me. I know how to sew my own ruffles, but it takes a lot of time and patience so it’s great to have it already done for me (and it’s done much better too!)

Ruffle Fabric also has a lot of fabric that would be so cute for an adult skirt or dress. There are several colors to choose from and you can get the bigger ruffles or smaller ones. You really just need to head over to their website to see the amazing selection of some of the BEST fabric you will ever lay your eyes on!! I want it all!!

This is a great way to help organize your closet. Since our closet rods are pretty full already, the Hang 10 on the door allows us some extra room. Being the nice wife that I am, I let my husband hang all of his dress pants & dress shirts on this hanger. It came with 5 pant hangers & 5 shirt hangers so it holds quite a bit. I love the Hang 10 on the door because it keeps my husbands nice clothes wrinkle free and easily accessible.

You can also get a Hang 10 on the Bar. This one is almost the same as the Hang 10 on the Door except it hangs on the closet rod. It also comes with 10 SmartiePancer Hangers and you get to choose the combination of all pant/skirt, all shirt, or half & half.

We were sent a pack of SmartiePancer hangers as well. They are hangers to hold pants or skirts. I love them because they are so easy to use. They only have one clip on one side. The other side has a little padded ‘finger’ that allows you to pull the pant tight and the tension on that side, along with the clip on the other side, holds the pant in place. It’s a little hard to explain. When I want to take the pants off the hanger, I simple open the clip and the pants fall right into my hands!! It so easy.

When I am cooking, particularly frying, I have a hard time getting the oil to the perfect temperature. Either it’s not hot enough, or it’s too hot and burns the food. So I couldn’t wait to try out my new Kalorik Deep Fryer.

The first thing I noticed when I opened it was how nice and big it is. It holds 4 quarts of oil and the big basket has plenty of room for me to make enough food for my whole family in usually just one basket full.

You can set it to any temperature you want and it even has a quick reference guide right on it telling you what temp. you will want for chicken, fish, fries, and seafood.

I made my sweet and sour chicken the other night and used this deep fryer to fry up the breaded chicken. I couldn’t believe how much easier this was to use than just a pan with oil in it. It heats up to the temperature pretty quickly and stays consistent. My chicken fried quickly to a beautiful golden brown and looked and tasted better than it ever has! My whole family loved it!

It is nice that the lid has a window to view the food your frying. And I really like the basket. I have never had a fryer before and I can’t believe how easy it is to just lift the basket out and the food is ready and strained, it’s so nice!

Another great feature is how easy it is to clean. The warmer comes of and the tub is removable for super easy washing.

I am so happy with this Deep Fryer and I will be using it every time I need to fry something. I definitely recommend it!

I’m Loving My New Whirlpool Duet Washer & Dryer!

As you can imagine I screamed with excitement when I heard I was going to receive a new Whirlpool Duet Washer & Dryer Set to test out and review. Yes I was literally screaming when I saw the email, LOL! Bug said “What is it Mama?!” and I said “We are getting a New Washer & Dryer Set!”.

I couldn’t wait for my new Washer & Dryer to arrive. I was counting down the days. When they finally arrived I was blown away by how gorgeous they look. I chose the Lunar Silver and the color is fabulous and looks great in our home. One of the first things I got really excited about were the pedestals. If you aren’t aware, the pedestals go under the washer & dryer making them much taller. Having them sitting taller means I barely have to bend over to put laundry in and take it out. I am loving this! No more aching back after hours of laundry!! It is truly a heaven send! And on top of it the pedestals have large drawers that pull out and are perfect for storing your laundry products.

Right away I was overwhelmed (in a good way) by how many wonderful features this pair has. I am just getting started with them but a feature that really stood out to me right away was the Precision dispense ultra feature. There is a cartridge that you fill with your detergent then the washer will decide how much detergent to use based on the load you are washing. It’s amazing! I know I tend to use to much, not on purpose but I do. I can’t even imagine how much money I waste by doing this…Now I don’t ever have to worry about using too much and wasting detergent. I don’t even have to think about it at all. The washer will even let me know when the detergent is running low so I can be sure to fill the cartridge again. This is wonderful!

Another feature I am enjoying is the My Cycle setting on the washer. You can create your own personalized cycle and it will store it for you. This is a great feature and I use it a lot. I also love all the available settings for washing. From normal and jeans to hand wash and bulky items. There is even a setting to wash the inside of your washer

Both the washer and dryer have Sanitize temperature settings to ensure your laundry will be 99.9% bacteria free. I really love this especially for when I am cleaning my dogs bedding. I love knowing that almost all the bacteria is being killed.

Another feature I am enjoying is on the dryer. It is the static reduce button. When it is on it will use a little water at the end of the drying cycle to reduce the static on your clothing. Isn’t that cool?!

As you can tell I am already loving my new washer and dryer and this is just the beginning! I can’t wait to share more fabulous features with you soon!

MAVEA Inspired Water~ Elemaris XL Water Filter Pitcher Review and Giveaway [CLOSED]

The water in my apartment sort of scares me. I have been afraid for what could possibly be in my water. I was very excited to receive the Elemaris XL Water Filter Picture from MAVEA Inspired Water to review.

The first thing that I noticed was that the pitcher comes in so many fun colors! I was very excited to receive a purple pitcher. I really like how the pitcher looks. It is very fashionable and functional looking.

The pitcher is very easy to use and the instructions were very easy to understand. The filter that goes with the pitcher is easy to install as well. On this particular pitcher, there is an electronic meter that tells you when you need to change your filter. I know that I would not know when to change it so it is great that the pitcher will tell you when to do it!

Another great thing about the MAVEA company is that they are big on recycling. When you are ready to get a new filter, you can send your old one back to them and they will pay for the postage!

I love my new MAVEA Elemaris XL pitcher! I am so happy now to feel like that I am drinking good, clean water!

I am loving my new table lamp from The Daylight Company. The name is correct it is very slim and I love that. It is really easy to hook onto a table or desk. Safe Non Toxic Paint ~ Mythic Paint Review and Giveaway [CLOSED]

I did open up one of the cans so I could see if the paint covered well…..and it does!! It’s a fantastic quality paint.

Have you ever seen a paint can that doesn’t include a warning label? Well Mythic Paint DOESN’T have one. There is nothing in the paint for you to be afraid of so they are not required to put a warning label on it. How is that for SAFE PAINT! I am not for certain, but I would bet you could even use this paint while pregnant!

LightDims LED Light Covers Review

What are LightDims? LightDims are specially designed, removable tiny covers for tiny irritating lights on your electronics.

Do you have trouble sleeping? If your like me then the smallest light in your room while your trying to sleeping drives you crazy. I like my room blacked out and I have blackout curtains to prove it. But the lights on my TV, DVD Player, and sound machine drive me crazy at night. I know my eyes are closed but when I open them and little tiny light but it burns so bright with the halos around lights, it really irritates my eyes. I thought it was something I just had to live with. So I was really excited when I was introduced to LightDims, and they seemed to be the solution to my problem. Of course I had to try them out and see if they worked.

LightDims come in Original strength 50-80% dimming power and Black out edition 100% blacked out. The 50-80% dimming power LightDims are perfect for getting an irritating LED light to dim on a device where you still want to see the light. For example a power light on your TV or other electronic device. Also, your remote still works with the 50-80& dimming LightDims.

The Black Out LightDims are great for devices where you just want the light to go away and don’t need to see it. For example our baby monitor (the end in our son’s room) has a bright green light on it. It always bothered my having the bright green light in his room, now that I have LightDims there is no longer a bright light in his room because it’s covered up.

After trying out both varieties of LightDims I am happy to report that they are a great product and they really work. The 50-80% dimmers really make the light go from bright and uncomfortable to low and soothing. The blackouts really 100% blackout the light.

I love that each pack comes with a large variety of LightDims in different sizes. No matter what I was trying to dim in my house, I was able to find the perfect size LightDim cover for it. They are really easy to apply, just feel and stick. And if you decide to remove them they are just as easy to remove (although I don’t see why you would want to )

I am so glad I have LightDims! They are the perfect solution for small irritating lights and I highly recommend them!
