The Secret World of Arrietty ~ See It Now In Theaters!

Arrietty (Bridgit Mendler), a tiny, but tenacious 14-year-old, lives with her parents (Will Arnett and Amy Poehler) in the recesses of a suburban garden home, unbeknownst to the homeowner and her housekeeper (Carol Burnett). Like all little people, Arrietty remains hidden from view, except during occasional covert ventures beyond the floorboards to “borrow” scrap supplies like sugar cubes from her human hosts. But when 12-year-old Shawn (David Henrie), a human boy who comes to stay in the home, discovers his mysterious housemate one evening, a secret friendship blossoms. If discovered, their relationship could drive Arrietty’s family from the home and straight into danger.

I LOVE Studio Ghibli films.  I have seen them all and personally own a majority of them.  My personal favorites are Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service.  From the first moment I heard about The Secret World of Arrietty, I knew I would be going.

This movie was fantastic and definitely lived up to my expectations.  I am a fan of traditional hand-drawn animation.  I love the new developed computer animation but I prefer the traditional 2D animation.  This is an area that Studion Ghibli excels in.  The animation is literally a work of art and it is a joy to watch.  It is amazing to me how talented some people in the world are.

The story is a familiar one that has been told before.  This movie is based on the story The Borrowers.  It is about little people that live in regular houses and ‘borrow’ small objects that the bigger people ‘beings’ won’t miss.  It was fun to see Hayao Miyazaki’s (the ‘brain’ behind Studio Ghibli and the screenwriter of this film) version of the story.  I love how creative they were in the tools that the Borrowers use to get the things they are going after.

The voice-over performances were fabulous in this film.  All of the cast did a great job.  My favorite was Amy Poehler’s performance as Homily (the mother of the Borrower family).  Her performance was hilarious and added so much more to her character.  Bridget Mendler (she is on Disney’s Good Luck Charlie, which I love) was great as the title character of Arrietty.  She brought depth and personality to the title character.  You really connected with her.

I loved The Secret World of Arrietty.  The animation alone is enough to see it but it is a fabulous movie in all aspects.  Do not miss this movie!

Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax Deluxe Edition Available on Blu-ray & DVD Tomorrow

My girls love a good movie and anything from Dr. Seuss is very much appreciated. They wanted to watch The Lorax as soon as it arrived on our doorstep and they really enjoyed it.

lorax1

Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax is the classic TV special that tells the tale of how an enterprising but greedy villain named the Once-ler, strips a forest of its lush Truffula trees, bringing them to near extinction for the sake of profit.

The story begins with the Once-ler, a faceless businessman who lives alone in a sad, gray wasteland.  He recounts how he first became obsessed with the Truffula trees’ potential to make him rich and how the Lorax, an endearing and wise little forest creature, tried lorax2to warn him that his greed was making him crazy.    It’s the Lorax’s job to “speak for the trees,” the wondrous Truffulas, that make up the beautiful forest in which various wildlife live, including Brown Bar-ba-loots, the Swamee-Swans, the Humming-Fish and the Lorax himself. The Once-ler, bewitched by the beauty of the Truffulas, greedily chops them down so he can mass produce versatile garments, called “Thneeds” out of the Truffula’s colorful tufts.

As the trees swiftly disappear, so do the Brown Bar-ba-loots, the Swamee-Swans and the Humming-Fish. The wise old Lorax continuously warns the Once-ler but his words of wisdom are for naught as the “Thneed” business booms and the Once-ler is blinded by greed. What will it take for the Once-ler to learn his lesson? Will the Truffula trees become extinct or is there hope for regeneration? “

Dr. Seuss’s classics are always engaging for children no matter what their age. Even my 1 1/2 year old loved this one! The Lorax is a must have for anyone who wants to enjoy a heartwarming story that is meaningful as well. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Film Review~ Now in Theaters!

In this follow-up to the 2008 worldwide hit Journey to the Center of the Earth, the new 3D family adventure Journey 2: The Mysterious Island begins when young Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson, reprising his role from the first film) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist. It’s a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.

If your family loves fun, adventure movies this is a movie for you to see!  I really enjoyed Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.  It is a great movie for the whole family.

There were many things that I liked about this movie.  I really liked the cast a lot.  I am a big fan of Michael Caine and Dwayne Johnson (to me, he will always be ‘The Rock’).  All the actors in the movie really appeared to be having so much fun.  I would like to add that as many times as I saw the trailer, the ‘pec dance of love’ still made me laugh!

I really liked how they brought different mythologies into the film.  They talk about Atlantis and Captain Nemo as they are on the island.  I am a book geek and love this little tie-ins.

I was pretty impressed with the 3D in this movie.  I am not a huge fan of 3D film but this one was actual fun.  They used the 3D effects in a meaningful way.  It was not just ‘throw in’ to make it more marketable.

If you have not seen the first movie, do not worry.  There is not much of a connection to the first film.  You will not be lost or confused.

For a fun family movie night out, go to Journey 2:  The Mysterious Island.  It is a fabulous choice!

The Vow Film Review~ Opens Today in Theaters

A newlywed couple recovers from a car accident that puts the wife in a coma. Waking up with severe memory loss, her husband endeavors to win her heart again.

I really love chick flicks.  I also really like Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams.  I was very excited to see The Vow.

The Vow was a very different sort of chick flick.  It is not your normal, fluffy, chick flick.  This movie really focuses on the reality of what it would really be like to have a spouse lose their memory.  Not just the memory of their life, but the memory of your life together.   This would be so difficult and the movie focuses on how hard it would really be.  Knowing that this movie is based on actual events made it even more real.

The acting in this movie was fantastic.  My sister and I really enjoyed Channing Tatum’s performance.  He made you really believe that he was madly in love with a woman who had no clue who he is or the incredible life they had together.

If you are looking for a chick flick for a girls night out or for Valentine’s Day date night, look into checking out The Vow.

The Vow is rated PG-13 and is now playing in theaters.  For more information, you can go to the film’s official website.

The Woman In Black Film Review~ Opens Today!

Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a widowed lawyer whose grief has put his career in jeopardy, is sent to a remote village to sort out the affairs of a recently deceased eccentric. But upon his arrival, it soon becomes clear that everyone in the town is keeping a deadly secret. Although the townspeople try to keep Kipps from learning their tragic history, he soon discovers that the house belonging to his client is haunted by the ghost of a woman who is determined to find someone and something she lost… and no one, not even the children, are safe from her vengeance.

I am not a big fan of horror films.  I think they are so dumb!  I normally go into horror movies and make fun of them because they are so lame.  I do have to say that the trailers for The Woman In Black intrigued me.  The main thing that made me want to see it was the fact that it was Daniel Radcliffe’s first post-Harry Potter role.  The trailer looked so scary too!  I was excited to see it.

The Woman In Black is honestly the scariest movie I have seen in a long time!  My friend and I were pretty scared the whole entire film.  I will be honest, I watched most of the movie with my hands over my eyes, peeking through my fingers.  Events in the movie had me constantly jumping out of my seat!  The ending was also unexpected.  It is not the ending you normally see in a typical ghost movie.

The film pretty much had to be carried by Daniel Radcliffe.  He did a fabulous job.  In many of the intense moments in the film, there is no dialogue.  Daniel Radcliffe’s reactions to the chaos going on around him is what moves the film forward and make you freak out even more.  Not once in this movie did I think about Daniel being Harry Potter.  He was the character, Arthur Kipps, in this film and he did it well.

I honestly do not know if I will ever watch this movie again.  It scared me so bad!  If you are a horror film fan, The Woman In Black is definitely a movie you should probably check out.

Big Miracle Film Review~ See it in Theaters Now!

Inspired by the true story that captured the hearts of people across the world, the rescue adventure Big Miracle tells the amazing tale of a small town news reporter (John Krasinski) and an animal-loving volunteer (Drew Barrymore) who are joined by rival world superpowers to save a family of majestic gray whales trapped by rapidly forming ice in the Arctic Circle.

I love true stories about animals, especially whales.  I was not familiar with the story that Big Miracle is based on.  I asked my mom about it and she said she remember the story being on the news awhile ago.  The movie takes place in 1988.  I figured that it must have been a pretty amazing story in order for it to be remembered by many people.

One thing that I liked about this movie is that it focused on a lot of different characters and you can keep them all straight.  My favorite character was the news reporter, Adam Carlson, played by John Krasinski.  For me, he provided some of the most touching and most funny moments of the film.  I learned a new method of what to do if someone’s eyes freeze shut!

This was a great family movie.  It is pretty clean content wise and I believe that little kids will stay entertained.  The whales are so cool to look at and you are cheering for them and the people through the movie.  In my opinion, the movie does push an environmental message of ‘save the whales’ but does not get too political.  I really liked this movie and think that it a movie worth seeing.  Make sure you stay through the majority of the credits to see actual footage for 1988.

Big Miracle gets bragging rights!

Big Miracle opens in theaters today.  It is rated PG.  For more information, you can go to the film’s official website.

Man On A Ledge Film Review~ See it in Theaters Now!

An ex-cop and now wanted fugitive (Sam Worthington) stands on the ledge of a high-rise building while a hard-living New York Police Department negotiator (Elizabeth Banks)tries to talk him down. The longer they are on the ledge, the more she realizes that he might have an ulterior objective.

I was excited to see Man On A Ledge.  I am a fan of both Sam Worthington and Elizabeth Banks.  That was enough to get me there.  I did think that the trailers and advertisements for this movie made it look very intense.  In addition, I was curious to see how they could make a full length movie about a man standing on a ledge.  I will admit, Man On A Ledge was definitely a crowd pleasing movie.

This movie is just not about a man standing on a ledge.  Without spoiling too much, Sam Worthington’s character, Nick, is a distraction for a robbery that is happening at a building not far from him.  Some of the major plot points in this movie were very predictable but there were a few moments that definitely surprised me.  The climax of the movie was something that I did not expect.

There were a couple of moments that did scare me a bit.  I am really short in real life and heights scare me.  Seeing over the ledge from Nick’s point of view was sometimes a bit unnerving.  There was one point in the movie that the crowd of people are yelling for Nick to just to jump.  I hope people in New York City are not that mean!  I would never yell at someone to jump.

My favorite part of this movie was Elizabeth Banks’ performance of the police negotiator.  In my opinion, she stole this movie from Sam Worthington.  I was always looking forward to when she would be back on the screen.

This weekend, if you are looking for a fun, action packed movie, Man On A Ledge would be a great choice!  Overall, I had fun watching it!

Man On A Ledge is rated PG-13.  It opens in theaters today.  For more information about the movie, you can go the film’s official website.

Red Tails Film Review~ Opens in Theaters Today!

1944. To help win the war, the Pentagon brass has no choice but to consider the untested African-American pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program. Just as the young Tuskegee men are about to be shut down and shipped back home, they are given the ultimate chance to show their courage. These intrepid young airmen take to the skies to fight for their country – and the fate of the free world.

I really did not know much about this movie when I was asked to preview it.  I knew that George Lucas was a producer and that it was about fighter pilots.  When I got to the theater and found that it was about the Tuskegee Airmen, I was excited to see it.  This is a story that has not been told on film before.  It is about time that the story of these brave men was done on film.

In my opinion, this is a more mild war film.  It is not gritty and harsh like Pearl Harbor.  I would compare it to more of the feeling you have watching Top Gun.  There were some very funny moments in this film.  Many of the characters in the movie have such fun personalities and had me smiling several times during the film.  The action moments in this movie was great.  They really put you into the action during the many aerial sequences in the movie.

As I was watching this movie, it was definitely a crowd pleaser.  The guys behind me were commenting the whole movie about how awesome it is.  I think that this is a movie that most men, and hopefully, most women will enjoy as well.  If you like action movies with pilots and planes, this is a movie for you!

Red Tails in now playing in theaters.  It is rated PG-13.  Make sure to check out the film’s official website for more details about the movie.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close Film Review~ Now in Theaters!

Oskar (Thomas Horn) is convinced that his father (Tom Hanks), who died in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, has left a final message for him hidden somewhere in the city. Feeling disconnected from his grieving mother (Sandra Bullock) and driven by a relentlessly active mind that refuses to believe in things that can’t be observed, Oskar begins searching New York City for the lock that fits a mysterious key he found in his father’s closet. His journey through the five boroughs takes him beyond his own loss to a greater understanding of the observable world around him.

I still remember where I was on September 11th.  I arrived home from an early morning high school sports practice and my mom told me that a plane had hit the World Trade Center.  I do not remember much of school that day.  The teachers finally gave up on their lessons for the day and turned on the televisions to let us watch this horrible event in American history unfold.  Although it has been 10 years, September 11th is a tough subject to discuss.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is a very well acted movie with amazing visuals.  Many people are interested in seeing this movie because of Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock.  This is not their movie.  They are hardly in it.  This movie belongs to Thomas Horn, who plays Oskar.  This young boy was fantastic in this movie.  Oskar is a very socially awkward character.  Many things frighten him.  During the movie, you really get into his mind.  Noise and sights are amplified.  This would be a very difficult character to portray and Thomas Horn does well at it.

I will say, this movie was very difficult to watch.  September 11th really affected so many people.  What made this different from the others is that you are seeing this horrible event and its aftermath through the eyes and experiences of a child.  This is a point of view we have not seen done on film until now.  Take a lot of tissues to this movie and plan on needing some ice cream at the end.  This movie is very sad.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close opens in theaters nationwide starting today.  The film is rated PG-13.  For more information about the film, you can go to the film’s official website.

Joyful Noise Film Review~ In Theaters Now!

“The small town of Pacashau, Georgia, has fallen on hard times, but the people are counting on the Divinity Church Choir to lift their spirits by winning the National Joyful Noise Competition. The choir has always known how to sing in harmony, but the discord between its two leading ladies now threatens to tear them apart. Their newly appointed director, Vi Rose Hill (Latifah), stubbornly wants to stick with their tried-and-true traditional style, while the fiery G.G. Sparrow (Parton) thinks tried-and-true translates to tired-and-old. Shaking things up even more is the arrival of G.G.’s rebellious grandson, Randy (Jeremy Jordan). Randy has an ear for music, but he also has an eye for Vi Rose’s beautiful and talented daughter, Olivia (Keke Palmer), and the sparks between the two teenagers are causing even more heat between G.G. and Vi Rose.”

I love musical films and I love Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton.  I was very excited to see this movie!

The music is this movie was fabulous.  All of the musical numbers were top notch.  The actors that sing in this film had amazing voices.  Going in, I know that Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton had amazing voices.  I was surprised how great the voices were of the two teenage leads, played by Keke Palmer and Jeremy Jordan.  I loved all the gospel music in this movie and it was also fun to see their take on modern songs, such as, Man in the Mirror.  This is a soundtrack I plan on purchasing soon.

The chemistry between Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton was great.  These two together provide some of the funniest moments of the film.  Their chemistry was great.  My sister, the audience, and I were laughing pretty hard during these moments in the film.  Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton also had some great dramatic and emotional moments moments during the story as well.  Some tough and difficult topics are present in the film.  This movie is not just a comedy, it has many dramatic and heart tugging moments that can be applied to the world today.

My one complaint about this movie is that it did have some really cheesy and corny moments.  Most of this moments are meant to be taken seriously but they were laughable.  Just be prepared for this as you are watching the movie.

Overall, my sister and I had a great time watching Joyful Noise.  I think that the music was fantastic and makes the film worth seeing.

War Horse Film Review~ In Theaters Christmas Day!!

“Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, War Horse begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets-British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter-before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land. The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse-an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure.”

Ever since I saw its first trailer, I have been very excited to see War Horse. I am a big fan of Steven Spielberg films. I had hope that this movie would be fabulous. After viewing War Horse, it definitely lived up to my expectations.

The acting in this movie was excellent. I liked that there were not ‘big name’ actors. My favorite was Jeremy Irvine’s performance of Albert. Through the whole movie, you are hoping that someday, he and his horse will be reunited.  This and the other performances really help the audience to connect with the horse, Joey, in this movie. Without this connection, the movie would be a failure. This is not the case with this film.  By the end, I had a connection with Joey as much as I had with the human characters in the film.

I will admit that sometimes this film is hard to watch. It really reminds people how horrible World War 1 really was. There is a great deal of violence in it. It was not necessarily the war violence that was difficult to watch because I was expecting it. What was hard to watch is that many horses are injured or killed during battles re-enacted in the film. For me, these were the most intense moments.

Overall, this movie was a beautiful and inspiring film to watch. Spielberg once again has done a fabulous job. I would not expect anything less from him. If you are looking for a great movie to see this Holiday season, War Horse is one that should not be missed. I hope to see it winning some awards in the next couple of months!

War Horse is rated PG-13 and opens in theaters on Sunday, December 25th. For more information about the film, you can visit the movie’s official website.

A Must See Family Movie ~ The Adventures of Tintin 3D Movie Review ~ Now In Theaters!

“Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures Present a 3D Motion Capture Film The Adventures of Tintin directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Steven Moffat and Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish. Starring Jamie Bell as Tintin, the intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure, and Daniel Craig as the nefarious Red Rackham.”

the_adventures_of_tintin_movie_poster_02

The previews for The Adventures of Tintin looked exciting and we couldn’t wait to see it.  My husband, myself, 12 year old C, and Bug went to see it at an advanced screening.  The kids were beyond thrilled.  Then when we arrived and found out it was in 3D they were even more excited.

12 year old C’s review:

“I thought The Adventures of Tintin was a great movie with a lot of action mystery and a really cute dog. The 3D was really great, you should see it in 3D.  My favorite part was when snowy tripped over the box and then the guys trip.  I laughed a lot and thought the detectives were really funny, they are not very smart and it’s funny to watch. I really liked the motorcycle part where they are riding down the hill through the town.  It was awesome!  It was a 10/10 movie for me. Actually the best movie EVER!”

21jp-advent-articleLarge

4 year old Bug’s review:

“I love it. I like when he says “Nobody takes my ship”.  I like when they swing the car around, it’s cool.  I like when they fight.  I like the pirate ship parts.  I liked wearing glasses at the movie (referring to the 3D glasses).  I liked eating popcorn while I watched the movie.  I really want to buy it when it comes out.”

Tintin (played by Jamie Bell), Haddock (played by Andy Serkis) and Snowy await rescue.

Both kids loved the movie.  My 4 year old was glued and watched the whole movie, which is a big deal for him.  My husband and I also really enjoyed the film.  We both agree that the 3D and animation is AMAZING!  There were times when it looked so real to me that I actually forgot that it was animated.  They looked like real people.  I was in awe because of this.  It is the BEST 3D and animated film I have ever seen.  It was packed with action and adventure as well as had a good story line that keeps your interest the whole time.  This is the must see family film of the year.  In fact I say it’s the best animated film of 2011, hands down.  If you see any movie this over the holiday break make sure it’s The Adventures of Tintin.  And be sure to see it in 3D, it’s incredible.

Rated PG.  For more info visit: www.tintin.com

My 4 year old couldn’t wait to see this movie, every time he saw a preview he would say “Mom we have to go see that, it’s coming out”.  So it was really fun to take him to see it.  He was glued to the movie the entire time.  He laughed a lot and LOVED every minute of it.  Since seeing it he has asked to go again, and has informed me that he wants it on DVD when it comes out :)   Huge hit with my 4 year old so I know your kids will love it.  As for me, I thought this was a really fun and cute kids movie.  The music was my favorite.  They incorporated a lot of popular music into it and I thought it was really great.  In fact it started with singing which is a must for a Chipmunk movie.  I appreciated that the running time isn’t too long, it’s about an hour and 20 minutes.  I found myself laughing and smiling more then I thought I would. Who doesn’t love these adorable little chipmunks who sing and dance?!  It is a good wholesome movie the whole family will enjoy.

I recommend taking your family to see Alvin and the Chipmunks Chipwrecked starting today and throughout the holiday break!

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Film Review~ Opens in Theaters Today

Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) has always been the smartest man in the room…until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large-Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)-and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder-a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by Professor Moriarty. The cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead of Holmes as he spins a web of death and destruction-all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.

I was very excited to see Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.  I absolutely loved Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in the last film.  I was excited to see what thrilling adventures they would be involved with this time around.  I was not disappointed, I loved this movie!

In my opinion, once again, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law make this film.  Their chemistry together playing off of each other is exciting and excellent.  That is how Holmes and Watson need to be played.  They are fabulous together.

Just like the first film, I really like how the filmmakers had slow motion moments to make things more noticeable and make you pay attention.  I love how it looks.  Also, I really enjoyed the film score by Hans Zimmer.  The music once again was its own character in the film.  My cousin and I really enjoyed how they had references to the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.  If you are a fan of the stories, you will have fun picking out the references they have made.

Sherlock Holmes:  A Game of Shadows is a great movie!  I recommend it!

New Year’s Eve Film Review ~ Now in Theaters!

New Year’s Eve celebrates love, hope, forgiveness, second chances and fresh starts, in the intertwining stories told amidst the pulse and promise of New York City on the most dazzling night of the year.

New Year’s Eve is one of the biggest holidays of the year.  It is a time to reflect on your year and get you ready for the next year.  I think that almost every possible New Year’s Eve scenario happens in this movie.  Although the movie was very predictable, my sister and I really liked it.

I can’t even start to name off the cast.  Most of Hollywood appears in this movie.  I was worried that all of the storylines would get jumbled and be a huge mess.  To my surprise, I was able to keep all the storylines straight and it was fun to see how they all connected together.  My personal favorite is the storyline involving Ingrid (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Paul (Zac Efron).  Ingrid is a sad, depressed secretary who hires Paul, a bike messenger, to help her complete her list of New Year’s resolutions.  Some of the ways that these resolutions are solved are so creative and cute.

If you are looking for a fun Girls’ Night Out, New Year’s Eve is a perfect movie!

New Year’s Eve is now in theaters and is rated PG-13.  For more information about the movie, you can go to the film’s official website.

Disney’s The Muppets Film Review~ Opens in Theaters Today!

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

I would like to start out that I am a HUGE Muppets fan.  I have seen all of the movies and watched the Muppet Babies cartoon when I was little.  I know my Muppets.  It has been several years since a decent Muppet movie has been made.  I was excited to see if this film would be the Muppets’ comeback.

I was SO happy watching this movie.  I had a big grin on my face the whole film.  With its corny songs and typical Muppet humor, this film will please Muppet fans of all ages and hopefully the Muppets will gain a few more fans.

The human performances in this movie were great!   Jason Segal (who also helped write the screenplay) is fabulous as Gary.  You can tell that Segal has a true love for the Muppets.  He is having the time of his life during this movie.  You can tell.  Amy Adams is also great as his girlfriend Mary.  She is just as cute in this as she was in Enchanted.  I have to say that I really enjoy Chris Cooper as the villain, Tex Richman.  Cooper actually raps in this movie.  It is awesome!

There were  also so many celebrity cameos in this movie.  I was excited to see what celebrity would show up in each scene.  By far my favorite was the celebrity that showed up during the “Man or Muppet” song.  I am going to be spoiler free but this song was awesome and by far my favorite moment in the film.

So to put it simply, go see the Muppets!  You will be happy!

Hugo Film Review~ See It In Theaters Today!

Throughout his extraordinary career, Academy Award-wining director Martin Scorsese has brought his unique vision and dazzling gifts to life in a series of unforgettable films. This holiday season the legendary storyteller invites you to join him on a thrilling journey to a magical world with his first-ever 3-D film, based on Brian Selznick’s award-winning, imaginative New York Times best-seller, “The Invention of Hugo Cabret.” Hugo is the astonishing adventure of a wily and resourceful boy whose quest to unlock a secret left to him by his father will transform Hugo and all those around him, and reveal a safe and loving place he can call home.”

I have liked watching Martin Scorsese’s movies.  I think he is one of the best directors around.  Most of his movies are not family friendly.  I was excited to see a Scorsese family film.

Hugo was a gorgeous film to watch.  It looked amazing.  A major theme in this movie are machines and how they move and work.  Many of the scenes take place inside a clock and it is visually stunning.

During the film, there is a mystery to solve.  I have not read the book (it is now on my reading list) and I wanted to see what the answer was.  This movie also talks a lot about old cinema.  I felt that Scorsese used this film to pay homage to old cinema and filmmaking.  As a movie buff, this was one of the things that I loved most about this movie.

The acting in this movie was top notch.  The child actors Asa Butterfield and Chloe Grace Moretz were fabulous as the main two characters, Hugo and Isabelle.  I was excited to also see Ben Kingsley and Christopher Lee in this film as well.  I was worried about Sacha Baron Cohen.  I will say that I am not his biggest fan.  He was good in this film and did not go over the top.

I will say that sometimes I did think that the movie moved slowly.  I think that really young children will struggle with sitting through this movie.  It is slightly over 2 hours long.  I do think that middle elementary age students and older will enjoy this movie.  It is a great family film.

Hugo was a fantastic movie.  I expect it to receive some award nominations in the next couple of months!

Hugo is rated PG and is now in 3D and 2D theaters.  For more information about the movie, you can visit the film’s Official Website.

Arthur Christmas Film Review~ Now in Theaters!

“The 3D, CG-animated family comedy Arthur Christmas, an Aardman production for Sony Pictures Animation, at last reveals the incredible, never-before seen answer to every child’s question: ‘So how does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?’ The answer: Santa’s exhilarating, ultra-high-tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole. But at the heart of the film is a story with the ingredients of a Christmas classic – a family in a state of comic dysfunction and an unlikely hero, Arthur, with an urgent mission that must be completed before Christmas morning dawns.”

I will admit, it has been awhile since I have seen a really good Christmas movie in the theaters.  Most of them the last few years have been, in my opinion, pretty lame.  I have been waiting for a great Christmas movie to recommend.  I am happy to say that I really enjoyed Arthur Christmas.

This movie was very funny.  I do not expect anything less from Aardman productions.  Their films are normally pretty hilarious.  This movie definitely put me in the Christmas spirit (even though it is before Thanksgiving).

All of the characters are pretty great but my favorite was the gift-wrapping elf, Bryony.  She was hilarious.  It is possible to wrap presents with only 3 pieces of tape.  I also liked Aardman’s take on how Santa delivers all the gifts in one night.  The first few minutes of the film are very creative.

Arthur Christmas is a great family film and the perfect movie to see this Christmas.

Arthur Christmas in now in 3D and 2D theaters starting today.  It is rated PG.  For more information, you can check out the film’s Official Website.

Happy Feet Two Film Review~ Opens Today in Theaters

Happy Feet Two returns audiences to the magnificent landscape of Antarctica in superb 3D.  Mumble, The Master of Tap, has a problem because his tiny son, Erik, is choreo-phobic. Reluctant to dance, Erik runs away and encounters The Mighty Sven-a penguin who can fly! Mumble has no hope of competing with this charismatic new role model. But things get worse when the world is shaken by powerful forces. Erik learns of his father’s “guts and grit” as Mumble brings together the penguin nations and all manner of fabulous creatures-from tiny Krill to giant Elephant Seals to put things right.

During the summer, I worked a lot at a movie theater.  Whenever I started Harry Potter, I would see the trailer for Happy Feet Two.  The music always made me happy (especially the cute baby penguins).   I was excited to see Happy Feet Two.

My favorite part of Happy Feet Two were the musical numbers.  Just like the previous movie, the music numbers are so fun to watch.  With the great voice talent and the great penguin dancing, most of the numbers are true showstoppers.  Plus, the baby penguins are SO cute!!

I was again impressed with the voice cast.  I would say that my two favorite characters in this film were the two Krills named Will and Bill (voiced by Brad Pitt and Matt Damon).  Some of the funniest and most memorable lines are said by these two characters.  Hearing Brad Pitt singing “We Are the Champions” made me laugh.

If you are looking for a fun family movie this weekend, Happy Feet Two is a great choice!

Happy Feet Two opens today in theaters and is rated PG.  For more information about the film, check out its Official Website!

J. Edgar Film Review~ Now in Theaters!

J. Edgar explores the public and private life of one of the most powerful, controversial and enigmatic figures of the 20th century. As the face of law enforcement in America for almost fifty years, J. Edgar Hoover (Leonardo DiCaprio) was feared and admired, reviled and revered. But behind closed doors, he held secrets that would have destroyed his image, his career and his life.

I was excited to see this movie.  I really enjoy most of Clint Eastwood’s films and I was very excited to see Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar.  I wanted to see if he could pull it off.

The best part of this movie was definitely DiCaprio’s performance as J. Edgar.  He definitely transformed himself for this character.  I really believed that he was Edgar.  I think that there is a very good chance that Leo has finally won his Academy Award for this role.

I thought that the other supporting actors did well.  This movie is loaded with remarkable actors.  Judi Dench, Naomi Watts, and Armie Hammer give excellent performances as well.  I thought that the makeup used in this movie was pretty good for the most part.  I could hardly recognize Leo when he plays a significantly older Edgar.  Sometimes though with some of the supporting characters, I felt that the makeup was a bit of a hinderance to their acting.

I am also really picky when I watch rated R movies.  I do not watch them very often.  This movie’s R rating for brief strong language is really that.  The language is very brief.  There are certain rated R curse words and this movie uses one of those twice.  I really did not think it was necessary to use the word.  There is also some sexual content but nothing that would be over a PG-13.

Is J. Edgar the best biopic movie ever made?  No, but Leonardo’s performance makes this movie worth watching at some point.  His performance is terrific!

J. Edgar opens today in theaters.  It is rated R for brief strong language.  For more information, you can go to the movie’s Official Website.
