The Secret World of Arrietty ~ See It Now In Theaters!

Arrietty (Bridgit Mendler), a tiny, but tenacious 14-year-old, lives with her parents (Will Arnett and Amy Poehler) in the recesses of a suburban garden home, unbeknownst to the homeowner and her housekeeper (Carol Burnett). Like all little people, Arrietty remains hidden from view, except during occasional covert ventures beyond the floorboards to “borrow” scrap supplies like sugar cubes from her human hosts. But when 12-year-old Shawn (David Henrie), a human boy who comes to stay in the home, discovers his mysterious housemate one evening, a secret friendship blossoms. If discovered, their relationship could drive Arrietty’s family from the home and straight into danger.

I LOVE Studio Ghibli films. I have seen them all and personally own a majority of them. My personal favorites are Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service. From the first moment I heard about The Secret World of Arrietty, I knew I would be going.

This movie was fantastic and definitely lived up to my expectations. I am a fan of traditional hand-drawn animation. I love the new developed computer animation but I prefer the traditional 2D animation. This is an area that Studion Ghibli excels in. The animation is literally a work of art and it is a joy to watch. It is amazing to me how talented some people in the world are.

The story is a familiar one that has been told before. This movie is based on the story The Borrowers. It is about little people that live in regular houses and ‘borrow’ small objects that the bigger people ‘beings’ won’t miss. It was fun to see Hayao Miyazaki’s (the ‘brain’ behind Studio Ghibli and the screenwriter of this film) version of the story. I love how creative they were in the tools that the Borrowers use to get the things they are going after.

The voice-over performances were fabulous in this film. All of the cast did a great job. My favorite was Amy Poehler’s performance as Homily (the mother of the Borrower family). Her performance was hilarious and added so much more to her character. Bridget Mendler (she is on Disney’s Good Luck Charlie, which I love) was great as the title character of Arrietty. She brought depth and personality to the title character. You really connected with her.

I loved The Secret World of Arrietty. The animation alone is enough to see it but it is a fabulous movie in all aspects. Do not miss this movie!

We love game night at our house. It is so much fun. Taboo has always been one of my favorite games to play so I was ecstatic when I received the New Taboo Game to review. It has over 1,000 new words which is great since we had played the older version so many times. The new element of the die also makes the game more interesting and fun. It requires 2 “AAA” batteries which are not included so be sure to have some on hand. We have had a blast playing this new Taboo game and I know your family will love it as well.

I am loving the Totally Amp’d app and so are my kids. The appisodes are so cute and fun and we were immediately pulled into the story just from watching the first one. The activities are really fun, my kids love that they can record themselves singing (and I had fun with it too) and remix songs. I remember Christmas morning as a little girl when we got our first Nintendo. We were so excited! We had a blast playing it as kids and in my mind no other system or games can compare. Ahhhh Nostalgia…So when I saw the Retro Duo NES/SNES Game System from Think Geek I knew I had to have it. I had a few old NES games stored in my garage, I know crazy right?! and I also order a few more on eBay. We have had a blast playing the old NES and SNES games on this system. The One Good Earbud is available in different styles: In ear, wrap around, iPod style, with or without a mic…For my hubby I got the In ear with Mic. It is perfect for him since he likes to be able to answer his phone as he is riding, with the mic he is able to do just that. BuDLoKs are a great way to ensure that your in ear headphones stay in your ear. My hubby uses them with his in ear one good earbud while riding his bike and exercising and they work great. He no longer has to worry about his earphone falling out while he is active. I have been loving goalforit.com and have been using it with 12 year old C and 4 year old Bug. Each child was excited to set up their chart. They have really fun designs for the charts that you can customize for your child, tween or teen so that they will be excited about it.

We got to pick a fun theme for each boy, then we choose the behavior, responsibilities, and goals for each child. I love that there are so many choices and I was easily able to find the best goals and responsibilities for each child that were age appropriate.

The kids love being able to check off (or get stickers) for each item they accomplish. Probably their favorite thing is the Moolah. Moolah is an option where you give your child points for each item they complete. Then the moolah is stored in a moolah bank (or rewards section for the older kids) and they can spend it on rewards that you set up for them. Since using these charts and rewards systems I have seen a huge improvement in both kids.

I have even been using the To Do List for myself and it has helped me to stay on track and get a lot more accomplished each week.

A Must See Family Movie ~ The Adventures of Tintin 3D Movie Review ~ Now In Theaters!

“Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures Present a 3D Motion Capture Film The Adventures of Tintin directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Steven Moffat and Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish. Starring Jamie Bell as Tintin, the intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure, and Daniel Craig as the nefarious Red Rackham.”

The previews for The Adventures of Tintin looked exciting and we couldn’t wait to see it. My husband, myself, 12 year old C, and Bug went to see it at an advanced screening. The kids were beyond thrilled. Then when we arrived and found out it was in 3D they were even more excited.

12 year old C’s review:

“I thought The Adventures of Tintin was a great movie with a lot of action mystery and a really cute dog. The 3D was really great, you should see it in 3D. My favorite part was when snowy tripped over the box and then the guys trip. I laughed a lot and thought the detectives were really funny, they are not very smart and it’s funny to watch. I really liked the motorcycle part where they are riding down the hill through the town. It was awesome! It was a 10/10 movie for me. Actually the best movie EVER!”

4 year old Bug’s review:

“I love it. I like when he says “Nobody takes my ship”. I like when they swing the car around, it’s cool. I like when they fight. I like the pirate ship parts. I liked wearing glasses at the movie (referring to the 3D glasses). I liked eating popcorn while I watched the movie. I really want to buy it when it comes out.”

Both kids loved the movie. My 4 year old was glued and watched the whole movie, which is a big deal for him. My husband and I also really enjoyed the film. We both agree that the 3D and animation is AMAZING! There were times when it looked so real to me that I actually forgot that it was animated. They looked like real people. I was in awe because of this. It is the BEST 3D and animated film I have ever seen. It was packed with action and adventure as well as had a good story line that keeps your interest the whole time. This is the must see family film of the year. In fact I say it’s the best animated film of 2011, hands down. If you see any movie this over the holiday break make sure it’s The Adventures of Tintin. And be sure to see it in 3D, it’s incredible.

We love playing games at our house and try to play as a family as much as we can. So we get excited about new Hasbro game releases. The most recent we got to test out is the new Simon Flash Game. It has cubes (similar to Scrabble Flash) that you line up to play 4 different versions of the Simon game. I’m a big Simon fan and have loved playing it since I was a kid. So it has been a real blast playing 4 different versions of the game. I love that it comes with a case to hold the tiles. It is perfect for to use during the Simon classic game since it keeps all the tiles lined up and you can travel with it. It’s fun that you can play alone or with people. This is a great family game and the perfect last minute Christmas gift idea!

My 4 year old squealed in delight when this package arrived at our house! We are lucky enough to have a relative who has a helium tank in his garage for his business so we took it over to his house and filled it with helium. If you don’t have a relative with helium, just take it to any store that fills balloons. Along with needing helium it also needs 4 AAA batteries so be sure to have those on hand. I chose the Clownfish cause I was a little worried about 4 year old Bug being scared of the shark (letting him watch Soul Surfer with me was probably not the best idea I’ve ever had). Once it was filled I was impressed by the size of the fish, it’s the real deal. Controlling it is a little tricky at first but once you get the hang of it, it’s not to bad. I love it really looks like it is swimming through the air. Super cool! Probably the best thing about it is that the whole family enjoys it and we have all spent time playing with it. Even our dogs are amused/intimidated by it, which is very entertaining I love that it is long lasting, we have had it filled for 2 weeks and it is still floating. Best of all once the helium runs out you can refill it with more. Nice.

I love both products! The Flats to Go are a must have to be in my purse at all times. I have had many times when I am stuck in my high heels and find myself walking a long distance. My boys LOVE the Battle Machines R/C Laser Combat Air vs. Land. They couldn’t wait to start playing with it once it arrived. It has gotten a lot of play time since then. It is great that they can both play and take turns being the remote control helicopter or the gun. It is a great toy with an awesome wow factor. I highly recommend it.

It comes with a Helicopter, Gun Tower, 2 Controllers and an Extra “blade” (small propeller). It does not include the batteries and it requires 11 AA batteries so be sure to have those on hand.

If you are looking for a remote control toy for your kids for Christmas this year, look no further. They will love this!

Get Designer Swimwear Like Paradizia and Phax at Swimwear360

I have become a huge fan of designer swimwear. It just stands out in a crowd unlike the plain swim suits you will find at your local bargain store. Not that there is anything wrong with that I love a great deal myself but designer swimwear just has such fabulous designs, patterns and details. I have also found that the designer swimwear is made from better fabrics meaning they last and look better much longer.
