As a mom teaching our kids to drive can be a scary thing.  The first thing on our minds is the safety of our children.  So of course we naturally have tips that we give our kids, some are helpful and practical and others are mandatory for their safety.  Here are my 5 tips for driving (Inspired by mom):

1. Always Be Prepared- Whether it is having an emergency kit in the car at all times to be prepared for an emergency or breakdown, or planning ahead by having regular maintanence done, it’s important to prepare for anything and everything.  My mom taught me to always be prepared and that definitely applies to driving.

2. Don’t text and drive- Or talk on the phone and drive.  It is very distracting to talk on the phone while driving (just watch someone who is) let alone texting while driving.  It simply isn’t safe and it is not worth the risk.  If you really have to call or text someone, take the time pull over and do it.

3. Wear Your Seat Belt- It may seem simple but surprisingly a lot of people don’t do it.  It is a fast and easy way to protect yourself should an accident happen, it really shouldn’t be overlooked.  I know as a mom I always check that everyone in the car is wearing their seatbelt.  Even when I am with other people in their car I say, buckle up. It might annoy them, but  I do it out of love

4. Be responsible- Lets face it teenagers can be irresponsible a lot of the time (unless you got lucky with yours) and they are generally the ones we are teaching to drive.  It is important to teach them that driving is not something to be taken lightly.  While it can be fun to drive their friends around, it can be very distracting as well.  The most important thing is to teach them to focus on the road so they are driving safely.

5. Always Keep the Gas Tank Over Halfway- A really good thing to do is to pretend your gas tank is empty at the half way mark.  That way you will always have gas should an emergency arise as well as never run out of gas because you didn’t realize it was on empty.

It wasn’t until I had children of my own that I realized how wise my mom was.  She wasn’t telling me what to do or giving me rules to be mean, but to protect me.  Now that I’m a mom I see that the only goal is to raise children who are good and keep them safe.  That is why driving tips from a mom can be the most beneficial one’s you will ever receive.  I would love to hear your mom tips from driving, please share…

About Jennifer Salzer: Dr. Salzer is a graduate of Duke University and New York University College of Dentistry, where she received her post-graduate certificate in Orthodontics. She is the recipient of numerous awards in the dental profession, and has been a national lecturer for Invisalign and a  spokesperson for Crest products and a member of the Pro Health Advisory Board. She recently invented Bracedlets, a popular accessory line made from orthodontic braces.

I am a huge ABBA fan, I LOVE the music!  So when I heard about ABBA You Can Dance for Nintendo Wii I couldn’t wait to try it out.  In fact I was so excited that I put together an ABBA You Can Dance Super 70’s party!  So I invited all my friends and told everyone to dress up 70’s style.  It was hilarious and fun to see how everyone dressed up   Then I decorated with my new fabulous Disco Ball and borrowed my little brothers Lava Lamp, my house looked groovy!  Of course no party would be complete without some snacks so I went retro with cocktail weenies and jello molds, and a nice bowl of punch.

I am super sad that Smallville series has ended.  What will I do?! I guess I will have to start watching from the beginning again with the complete series set.  Actually that sounds like a good idea, I’m gonna do that.  So since the shows end I have been thinking.  Where would it go from here if it were to continue?  I would love to see Clark and Lois have babies and start a family.  I think it would be fun to see and creates a lot of new possibilities.
