10 Marvellous Uses For Metal Around Your Home

Metal can have both structural or decorative purposes in a home. Beyond its obvious uses such as pipes and beams, there are many other uses that you can explore. Below are a few examples of different uses for metal around the home.

Roofing

Metal roofing has many great practical properties – it’s fire-proof, long-lasting and energy-efficient. It’s also available in an array of different colors and shapes from traditional corrugated grey steel to orange aluminium shingles.

Walls

Metal can also be used on your home’s walls. It can be used as a decorative and durable cladding choice. Alternatively, the walls of your home itself can be made of metal as is the case with these Butler buildings. Container homes are another example.

Windows

Steel and aluminium window frames can be an incredibly secure option. They’re also good at reducing heat loss. On top of this, they’ll last for many years before needing to be replaced.

Furniture

There are so many different applications for metal in furniture. It’s a very popular choice of material for outdoor furniture – heavy options like cast iron are great for withstanding high winds, while lighter aluminium options can be easily moved around. Inside the home, metal is commonly used for dining room chairs, dining room tables, coffee tables and even bed frames.

Sinks and tubs

Metal sinks are popular in kitchens – they are easier to install than porcelain sinks and easy to keep clean. Steel is the most popular choice, but you can also build sinks out of materials like copper for more of a statement. Metal bathtubs can meanwhile provide a vintage feel to a home – the likes of freestanding copper bathtubs may even have a luxurious feel, but copper sinks are often the go-to for bathroom upgrades.

Countertops

It’s possible to also build kitchen or bathroom countertops out of metal. Copper is one option that can typically look more stylish than stainless steel. Metal may provide an industrial look to a kitchen when paired with reclaimed timber cabinets.

Sculptures

Metal sculptures can be very fun – they can include everything from wall pieces to outdoor ornaments. You can buy modern sculptures online, or try looking into more historic options in antique stores. You can even make your own metal sculptures.

Light fittings

Metal is often incorporated into light fittings ranging from pendant lights to chandeliers. Such light fittings last longer than many plastic ones and can give a room a more sophisticated feel.

Gates and railings

Metal is a good choice for gates and railings because of how sturdy it is. Wrought iron is commonly used to create intricate stair railing and exterior gates. Lighter steels and aluminium can be used for a more modern and subtle look.

Fencing and sheds

You can also choose steel and aluminium fences, as well as steel and aluminium sheds. These are typically seen as a good option in areas that experience a lot of wind. Metal sheds can also be very secure. You can find metal shed kits online.
