Every upcoming holiday brings a certain dose of anticipation and excitement, as we start to take out all of the decor we’ve accumulated over the past years. Making room and setting up the decor is – let’s be honest – one of the most exciting parts of preparing for a holiday ahead.
But the thing is, bringing out the same pieces year after year can become somewhat boring and uneventful.
On the other hand, getting completely new decor pieces every year will eventually leave you with no room to store it in. So what do you do?
Easy! Simply approach your holiday decorating efforts with these creative tips in mind and master your every holiday design like a true pro.
Choose a centerpiece
Every holiday decor revolves around a certain theme. No Easter decor will work well without colorful eggs and bunnies, just like no Christmas can do without a Christmas tree.
That’s why you should always choose a centerpiece of your decor that can work great on its own and only add to it if you wish.
For instance, you can easily choose a Christmas outdoor set to be the focal point of your yard decor, and only add a couple of more things to it, like fir branches and pinecones to further elevate the look. Since the piece already makes a statement on its own, there’s really no reason to add too many things to it. Otherwise, you only run the risk of making it look tacky instead of elegant.
Decorate for the season, not the holiday
A great idea when it comes to holiday decorations is to actually decorate for the season and not the holiday itself. So, instead of focusing the design on Easter, 4th of July, Halloween and Christmas, make it about spring, summer, fall and winter. Of course, as the holiday draws nearer, you can always add just a few holiday-specific decor elements to your already-existing design and instantly turn it into holiday decor.
For the best results, however, try to keep these additions minimal – yet effective – so that you only have a few things to remove from your decor once the holiday is over, but the season is still in full bloom.

Finally, try as we might, we always somehow end up purchasing new decor pieces every season, which eventually leaves us with no room to store them. Not only that, but holiday decorating can start to become daunting – instead of joyful – if the number of decor pieces becomes overwhelming.
That’s why we should try to keep things under control and try to limit the pieces we cannot imagine our holiday decor without. The rest can be sold, gifted or donated so it can bring joy to someone else the next holiday season.
