{BragWorthy Christmas} Girls Explore Role Model Dolls + Giveaway!

doll-and-photo-scaled_ad769b8d-d7d8-439c-b1bf-da664b64b0c2

I received these dolls for review, all opinions are my own.

As a Mom I want my girls to have role models that are strong Women and Men of course. I love that my girls are learning about Science, Math, Technology etc. and learning that they can be anything they want to be when they grow up.

The Girls Explore Dolls are life like Dolls made after real women Heroes! Some of the dolls they feature are Amelia Earhart, Harriet Tubman, Mary Cassatt and more! I was really excited to sit down one day with Charlotte and explain who Amelia Earhart and Mary Cassatt was. I love that these dolls are featuring faces of real women! Charlotte really liked the Story of Amelia Earhart and I love that each doll comes with her own story book so girls can really learn about each doll.

Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and the United States! Charlotte who is only 4 was really into the story! I was able to look up some pictures online and tell her more about her too. I like that the Doll is not only fun to play with but really has a purpose of teaching girls!

“Taking Women to New Heights The first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and the United States, Amelia Earhart is known for her tremendous achievements as a pilot. She was a pioneer of women’s rights, believing that women could do anything they set their minds to.

The Amelia Earhart doll set includes the 12 inch Amelia doll dressed in realistic clothing with her own miniature compass, a hard bound biography about Amelia, and a real, working compass.” (Girls Explore Website)PicMonkey Collage56

Charlotte was so excited to learn about Mary Cassatt also. I had no idea who she was so it was fun to be able to learn about her! She was a wonderful artist who really changed things for women of her time in the art world. Both of my girls love to draw and paint. Charlotte was excited to give this as her gift to Leah for Christmas, she can’t wait! The Mary doll comes with a book, basket, paint set and notebook.

“Artist of the Tender Moment Mary Cassatt always wanted to be an artist. But to reach her goal, she had to overcome many barriers. At the time Mary lived, people frowned on girls from wealthy families having a career. Her parents did not want her living the “odd” life they thought artists lived. Few art schools even accepted girls and women as students. And the “art world” held one idea of what painting should be but Mary had a different idea.Mary did not give in to these prejudices. After much travel, study, and hard work, she won over her parents and the critics. Today Mary Cassatt’s “impressionist” paintings hang in the most prestigious museums and collections throughout the world. She helped change attitudes that for so long kept women from their dreams. She even played a part in winning the right for women to vote.

There are so many things that I want to teach my girls and the main one is they can be whoever they want to be as long as they work hard to achieve their goal!

“Girls Explore broadens the horizon of possibilities for girls through role models in major fields of science, sports, the arts, the humanities, and business and professions. Each role is a reflection of the woman who is a leader in her field and we hope our women role model dolls spark topics of interest and education for girls and boys to explore their potential.

Along with the information on our website, we have developed dolls based on contemporary and historical women role models. These dolls are modeled after real women and can be used for play or just collecting. As well as the dolls, children can enjoy the biography, activity pack, and accessory that accompany each doll. We believe that play and visual materials can encourage girls and boys to explore many areas and develop positive role models for life.

As young people read the biographies on the women they are learning what it takes to succeed in certain fields and the values that will help them throughout life. They also become aware of the many different careers as options for themselves.

Our Roots:

Sitting around the holiday table during the fall of 2002, my sisters and I were lamenting the lack of certain types of toys for girls. After several decades in corporate America, including being a computer programmer at IBM, I looked around and noticed how few women sat beside me. From personal experience we knew the difficulty girls have in finding role models and getting good information about careers, often resulting in limited ambitions. Over the next several months that conversation and others led to the concept for Girls Explore.

Realistic Faces and Bodies

We have developed dolls based on contemporary and historical women role models.  Our dolls have lifelike faces created from 3D computer scans, and historical photographs are authorized images, and have historically accurate costumes.Dot_Richardson_and_the_doll_Girls_Explore_made_from_scanning_her_face_large

Here’s an example from Dr. Dot Richardson, who we scanned at Cornell University. We believe using realistic faces and bodies reinforces positive body images in children. Play and visual materials with realistic body types can encourage girls and boys to explore many areas and develop positive role models for life.” (Girls Explore Website)
