Devilla Forest, Fife

Devilla forest is mainly flat through the gradient increases the further north you go. The forest is well signposted, with abundant and enchanting wildlife – many bird species nesting high in the trees and one of the rare places in the UK with red squirrels. It’s a hidden gem with breathtaking views.

Glen Sligachan Trail, Isle of Skye

Glen Sligachan is a remote bay at Camasunary with awe-inspiring scenery.

Isle of Bute

Isle of Bute is an island in the Firth of Clyde in Scotland – it has a rare blend of worldliness and wilderness. The island has rolling hills, heather-covered moorlands, and the charming sandy beaches.

Wales

Antur Stiniog, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Snowdonia

Antur Stiniog is not for the faint-hearted if you are a serious mountain cycler you need to get yourself over here. The area is predominantly a downhill and freeride with blue, red, black and double black trails.

Afan Forest Park, near Port Talbot

Afan Forest Park is located in Neath Port Talbot in South Wales and is a mecca for outdoor activity. There are excellent facilities including café’s, bike shops and campsites. There are plenty of trails to choose from and each of the trails offers a  quirky challenge.

Elan Valley, Mid Wales

Elan Valley is a river valley situated to the west of Rhayader, in Powys, Wales, sometimes known as the “Welsh Lake District”. It is famous for its picturesque scenery and is a popular cycle trail.

England

Skiddaw, Northern Lake District

Skiddaw is a mountain in the Lake District National Park – you can set out across farm fields to make your attempt on the summit of England’s 4th highest peak. Whinlatter Forest England’s only mountain forest, it is home to the 19-kilometre Altura Trail, featured in ‘The Times Top 10’ locations for mountain biking.

Verderers Trail, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire

The Forest of Dean district is located in the western part of Gloucestershire and is home to fantastic and challenging biking trails. This is perfect for non-cyclists to enjoy too, not too many strenuous hills.

The Bodmin Beast, Cornwall

The Bodmin Beast is located in Bodmin in Cornwall. This 12km cycle trail explores the slopes of the Cardinham Valley. This is ideal for keen mountain bikers and experienced off-roaders – you will face exhilarating climbs and descents, exciting technical tests and exposed trails.

Ireland

The Ring of Kerry, Killarney

Killarney is a town on the shores of Lough Leane in southwest Ireland’s County Kerry. It’s a stop on the Ring of Kerry scenic cycle. South and west of the town is an expanse of rugged mountainous country. All best of all – it has it all, from a combination of mountains, lakes, woods to waterfalls.

The Derroura Mountain Bike trail, County Galway
The Derroura Mountain Trail is in the West of Oughterard in County Galway. The trail is relatively easy to cycle, with nothing too technical but it does involve a lot of climbing. It’s one of Coilltes custom built and designed trails in the beautiful setting of Connemara.
