What to do When Your Child is Struggling Academically?

This is a sponsored guest post.

Every parent wants their child to do well in life but that doesn’t mean things will always come easily to them. There are those that excel in the education system and those that struggle. But, the good news is, if your child is struggling academically there are things you can do to help.

Talk To Them

The first stage is to talk to your child especially if they were doing well and are now struggling. It’s possible that something has changed at school, or even at home, that is affecting their ability to concentrate and get the work done.

By talking to your child you may be able to identify what the issue is and help them to resolve it, boosting their academic efforts indirectly.

Check the Facility

It’s also worth looking at the facility you’re using for your child, it’s important that they are in a safe and nurturing environment, for that they need a facility that cares about them on an individual basis. Check for reputable and high-quality childcare Wyndham Vale to ensure your child is in the best possible place to learn and develop. Their experiences in early childhood education can really influence their ability to succeed later in life.

Sleep

It’s important that children get enough sleep every night. When they sleep their brains process the events of the day, they digest the knowledge they’ve learned, and they grow! That’s a lot to do especially after busy days. They need to get between 8-12 hours of sleep depending on how old they are.

Diet

You may not realize it but diet can affect the performance of children at school. You need to think about what you’re feeding them and make sure that they are getting a balanced intake of nutrition. This doesn’t mean they can’t have sweets and treats, but these should be in moderation and supplements to their healthy diet.

Read To Them

If they have a short attention span you can improve this by reading to them on a daily basis. You’ll need to start short and choose a book they like. Gradually increase the amount of time you spend reading and their attention span will increase with it. The result will be a better ability to listen and learn in the classroom.

Extra tuition

If your child is struggling in just one or two subjects but otherwise doing well, then they probably just need a little extra tuition in those subjects. Getting a home-tutor will allow them to get the extra knowledge they need and you’ll see their grades improving.

If they’re reluctant to have a home tutor you can always reward them when they hit s=certain standards.

Set Boundaries

It’s also important that you set boundaries. This is especially beneficial if your child loves spending time with friends and playing video games. These are activities that should only be allowed after homework has been done properly and the effort is reflected in the classroom. With a little gentle persuasion, you’ll see a huge difference.
