{Brag Worthy Christmas} Toys for Girls ~ GoldieBlox Parade Float Review

GB_Box_BT002_v1_r1I feel like my girls are pretty well rounded when it comes to the activities they enjoy. They love cute stuffed animals, they love to dressing up & they enjoy searching for frogs in our backyard. We were sent a GoldieBlox Parade Float to review, and I was really excited to introduce this construction set to my daughters!goldie6

“At GoldieBlox, our goal is to get girls building. We’re here to help level the playing field in every sense of the phrase. By tapping into girls’ strong verbal skills, our story + construction set bolsters confidence in spatial skills while giving young inventors the tools they need to build and create amazing things.

goldie4In a world where men largely outnumber women in science, technology, engineering and math…and girls lose interest in these subjects as early as age 8, GoldieBlox is determined to change the equation. Construction toys develop an early interest in these subjects, but for over a hundred years, they’ve been considered “boys’ toys”. By designing a construction toy from the female perspective, we aim to disrupt the pink aisle and inspire the future generation of female engineers.

We believe there are a million girls out there who are engineers. They just might not know it yet. We think GoldieBlox can show them the way.”goldie7

I really love what GoldieBlox is trying to do for girls with these construction sets. If you walk through the toy store, it is difficult to find much that encourages building and inventing geared toward girls. I want my girls to have toys that will give them options and that is exactly what GoldieBlox does for them.

“In this much-anticipated sequel, Goldie’s friends Ruby and Katinka compete in a princess pageant with the hopes of riding in the town parade. When Katinka loses the crown, Ruby and Goldie build something great together, teaching their friends that creativity and friendship are more important than any pageant.
  • A book series plus construction set introducing Ruby, Goldie’s best friend and princess-turned-engineer.
  • Builds spatial skills, engineering principles, and confidence in problem-solving.
  • Comes equipped with 9 design ideas, a DIY project, and unlimited building possibilities.
  • Compatible with all other GoldieBlox toys.”

GoldieBlox is a book series that comes with a set of items that my girls can use to create, build and invent to their hearts desire. Our set, the GoldieBlox Parade Float came with:

  • Storybook,
  • 3 animal figurines,goldie3
  • 7 wheels,
  • 6 blocks,
  • 9 short axles,
  • 4 long axles,
  • 4 spacers,
  • 1 band,
  • 1 ribbon,
  • 9 design ideas.

The story lines are really cute and the book is illustrated in a way that really captures my 6 and 8 year old’s attention. There are design ideas to help my girls, or they are free to build whatever they can come up with. This particular set teaches my girls about the ‘Wheel and Axel’ concept. I really enjoyed watching them play with something that they had never really had any previous experience with. GoldieBlox is a completely new kind of educational toy for them and they really enjoyed it!

Christmasgift2013final.jpgThere are different sets that you can purchase, and they even offer an add-on set that allows your child to create even bigger and better things! The toy is geared toward girls ages 4-9 years old, but that didn’t stop my 18 month old daughter from enjoying it. She busied herself by putting sticks into the holes in each of the blocks. It was great for her hand-eye coordination, but I do have to watch her so she doesn’t put any of the small pieces in her mouth. If you are looking for toys for girls, GoldieBlox is the perfect Christmas gift, and I highly recommend it!! STEM toys (science, technology, engineering and math toys) are a great way to provide a lot of educational learning that feels like playing and GoldieBlox is no exception!
