Building Up Your Post-Maternity Wardrobe

Having a baby changes the course of your life. This is a huge process to go through that radically alters your body, your mental state, your emotional state and your general approach to life. When you head home with a baby in your arms, your priorities completely change and you begin putting their every want and need first. This is right, of course. But you also need to make sure that you’re taking care of yourself through all of this. We often grow so wrapped up in providing for our little one that we forget to provide ourselves with what we need to lead a happy and comfortable existence too. One example is clothes. When you have a baby, you’ll have spent the last nine months in clothes that probably aren’t going to work for you anymore. As you lose your bump, maternity clothes will begin to sag and no longer fit. As you breast feed, you may find that your breasts grow, meaning that older bras aren’t making the cut. As you recover from ceasareans, you will find that you need more accommodating clothing around your waist. This means you’re going to have to start building up a post-maternity wardrobe for yourself. Here are some ideas that can help you.

Maternity Bras

Let’s start with one of the most essential pieces of clothing for women during their post-maternal period – a maternity bra. Whether you choose to breastfeed or not, there’s likely to be a period of time where your breasts grow and fill with milk. This is a natural process and something that you will have to accommodate. Maternity bras are specially designed to make this experience as comfortable as possible. They are accommodating, extremely supportive and some have pockets for placing breast pads to prevent leakage through to your clothes. If you are breastfeeding, many also including straps and designs that are specially created to make breastfeeding access more simple and straightforward. You can visit stores for specialised fittings, which will help to make sure that you get something that is comfortable and right for you. You may also need a few options as your body changes over time throughout the breastfeeding and weening processes.

Clothes for Going Out

Whether you have events associated with your baby, or simply want to start heading out and catching up with friends, you’re going to need some clothes for going out out, and chances are, you haven’t worn any for a while. Your body may have changed shape and you may find that old outfits you relied on are no longer suitable. Sure, most parents will start thinking that money could be better spent elsewhere, but it’s important that you have at least one night time or brunch appropriate outfit that you will feel great in. Shop boutique brands like Paisley Grace Boutique for something that will stand out. Whether that’s a dress, a jumpsuit or anything else that takes your fancy. You may even want to add in some jewellery to make it feel especially occasional.

Sportswear

Of course, comfort is likely to be top of your list of priorities following birth. Birth is a harsh process on your body and you will likely want clothes that are soft, comfortable and easy to move around in. This is where sportswear can come to the foreground. Sportswear tends to be made from soft and stretchy fabrics that can accommodate your body while ensuring that you feel supported. They will move with you as you stretch, walk, lean and engage in any other movement – whether you’re resting or handling your baby. Nowadays, you don’t necessarily have to rely on sportsbrands for sportswear. It’s easily accessible online and there are a lot of affordable options that aren’t specialist but are comfortable.

Loungewear

Many of us will find ourselves spending a lot of time in loungewear. Loungewear is a relatively new addition to the clothes market and is specifically designed so that you have something comfortable and cosy to wear that isn’t pyjamas. Loungewear is ideal for wear around the house, where comfort is a priority, but is also suitable for when you have visitors around or even popping out and getting on with some routine tasks and chores. Again, thanks to its popularity, countless brands, stores and sites offer loungewear options that will suit your needs!

These are just a few areas to focus on when building your postpartum wardrobe. Hopefully, some of the ideas will drive you in the right direction, providing comfort and support when you need it most!
