Essential Gears Every Iaido Lover Must Have

Iaido is a martial art that involves using the Japanese sword, katana. There are other Japanese sword arts that have practically zero emphasis on sword drawing which are generally considered as Kenjutsu. Unlike the other arts, Judo or Kendo, where there is one unified educational plan; Iaido is a nonexclusive term applied to numerous semi-related or inconsequential conventional streams of instructions known as koryū. Below you can find the list of the essential gear every Iaido lover must-have. Keep reading!

  • A Uniform

Many iaido institutions may have a few sets of loaner uniforms for people who want to take trail classes. But if you are not comfortable wearing shared gear – or if you are an iaido enthusiast who wants to build your own gear collection, you must buy an iaido uniform.

  • A belt

A large number of martial arts use some form of grading system, and most of those are represented in belts. Each art has its own variation on the progress of colors representing each rank and each step of progress as a student; many start with a white belt.

  • Samurai Sword – Katana

A katana is used in iaido. There are different types of katana sword. Wakizashi can be used, but the traditional iaido practice requires using katana. Conformity is important because a sword must be made specifically for a conventional katana to pass the iaido restrictions.  Many options are for katana custom sale if you wish to make your gear.

  • Protective Gear

It is unlikely that you will be doing any serious sparring in your initial classes. No one will throw a rookie before they are well-equipped and prepared to handle the situation safely. No, you might not need these instantly, but after some time, you can use them. As you move forward in your training, you can invest in these as per your instructor’s guidance.

  • Learning Materials

You can invest in some iaido learning materials if you are planning to kick start your iaido journey. These will help you make up your mind and prepare you for new classes.

Conclusion

If you are an Iaido lover, then you must have these essentials.
