One of my fondest memories as a child was of me and my sisters walking to our local general store to buy a coca-cola. We lived in a really small town. Really small. So that is the only place we had to purchase anything, a small general store with I believe just one gas pump, if it even had one LOL! So we would save up our change and walk there (about 5 blocks) once we had saved up enough to buy a Coca-Cola and some penny candies. I always loved getting my Coke as they had the glass bottles (that look so cool). That is really the best way to drink a Coke. They even let us bring them back in for the recycling refund (and of course we saved them and brought them back, more penny candies for us!).
We would then walk to the park sipping our ice cold Coca-Cola and chewing our penny candies. We would teeter totter and swing on the swing sets, just playing and having fun. Those were the days, not a care in the world. I really love thinking back to that time, life was simple and care free. I mean for heavens sakes they had penny candies and teeter totters. Can’t find those anymore due to rising costs and safety hazards 🙂 Although we all survived our teeter totter experiences, I guess they are too dangerous now or something? But I digress…
I really enjoyed my time with my sisters. No video games, no television, we had them don’t get me wrong and we enjoyed them. But it wasn’t very often. Most of the time we were outside playing and running. That was when I had the most fun, using my imagination and exploring the world around me. I worry about this generation of children with all the electronic devices, and such a busy life style. I think as parents we need to be sure to teach our kids how to slow down and play using just their body and mind. I loved my memories as a child walking to the store to buy a Coca-Cola, and I want my kids to have the same type of experiences. Just pure carefree good times. Sipping an ice cold coke walking around town with plenty of time and good company.
I would love to hear your Coca-Cola Family Memories from anytime in your life, please share them in the comments section!
