How to Balance Motherhood With Running a Business

Running a business can often be a full-time job. Being a mother also happens to be a full-time job, so when you’re trying to juggle the two, it can be difficult to keep your balance right. Eventually, something is going to have to suffer and, if you’re not careful, you could be the thing that gets caught in the middle.

So, here are a few tips to help you balance motherhood, running a business, and your own life all at once.

Create a Schedule

One of the best things anyone can do to get a better balance of their workday is to create a schedule. A work from home schedule is ideal for your work, because it means that you don’t let any projects fall through the cracks. If you know what you’re doing before you start working, you won’t waste any time on procrastination or making decisions. You can just work.

You can also figure out when to work and when to prioritize other things. The great thing about running a business is that you can be more flexible. You can work while the kids are sleeping or at nursery, allowing you to be fully present when they need to.

Don’t forget to schedule breaks during the day as well, so you don’t get burnt out. This is a key to balance.

Get Help

Trying to do everything alone is often where people lose balance. They end up neglecting their own needs, which leaves them exhausted. So, don’t be afraid to get help.

When your kids are old enough, preschool can be incredibly helpful for them and you. Try to figure out how your partner can support you as well, as even now, moms often end up taking the lion’s share of the parenting and housekeeping duties. Ask other family members to babysit now and then.

All of this means that you aren’t doing everything yourself, but you’re working as part of a team to make sure your family gets the care it needs.

Self Care

Speaking of the care people need, don’t neglect your own needs. Take breaks throughout the day to have some time to yourself. You should also schedule longer self-care sessions now and then, such as having a spa day or working out a couple of times a week.

This means that you won’t end up unable to work or effectively look after your family because you’ve burnt yourself out. You can stay strong and busy.

Working While Pregnant

Finally, one reality of being a working mom is that sometimes you’re not just working while looking after kids, but you might also be carrying a child. In this case, you may need to prioritize your health, especially near the end of your pregnancy.

It’s also a good idea to look into self employed maternity pay so that, even if you can’t work for a while before and after your baby is born, your family is still looked after financially.
