How to Choose A Fun Family Costume Theme For Halloween

I received a thank you gift from Pure Costumes for posting this.  All opinions are my own.

I absolutely LOVE Halloween time.  It is such a fun time of year.  Getting out the Halloween décor, picking out pumpkins at the pumpkin patch. I even like sending out Halloween cards.  But our favorite night is Halloween.  Trick-or-Treating as a family is our tradition and we always have a blast.  So, of course, everyone needs a costume and it is the time of year to start choosing them.

But instead of having everyone choose individual costumes, why not do a family theme?  It is so fun to see families dressed up in a theme, it’s something I have always loved.

But how to decide on a theme?

If you have babies or toddlers then you have the luxury of deciding the theme that you like best.  Most little ones will wear whatever costume you choose without a second thought.  So have fun choosing something you think is an adorable or super fun fit for your family.  When my son was a baby I choose the most adorable skunk costume for him and decided to theme around it.  Since he was a skunk I decided he would be a lost boy from Peter Pan.  I then got costumes for my husband and I, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. We were the cutest little family that Halloween and it was very fun!

If you have older children then you will definitely need to include them in the theme selecting process.  The easiest way to do this is to ask your older children what they want to be for Halloween and then select your theme around their choice.  For example last year my son was very into Batman and said that is what he wanted to be for Halloween.  So I found the most adorable girl Robin costume (with a sparkly tutu) for my daughter.  Joker for dad and Cat Woman for mom.  If you have more than one older child then they will have to work together to find a theme with costumes they both like.  It is a good way to teach them that working together and compromising is important.

Once you have selected your family’s theme it is time to get some awesome costumes.  PureCostumes.com has a great selection of costumes to choose from for your family themed costumes.

You will definitely be the talk of the neighborhood with your fun family themed costumes!

Happy Halloween!
