How to Keep Young Children Entertained

Play time comes naturally to kids—but that doesn’t mean they can find things to entertain themselves at all times. Sometimes children need a little inspiration to keep busy. It might be tempting to sit them in front of a television or hand them a tablet, but it is a good idea to limit screen time to a minimum. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to engage children that don’t involve digital devices. Here are a few great ideas to help keep young children entertained.

  1. Music

If you find your child bopping along to the radio or transfixed with musicians they see on the street, feed their curiosity by equipping them with a diverse selection of music. From purchasing CDs to listening to songs online, there are plenty of ways to access music. Listening to music is a pastime you can enjoy with your child. Explore different genres together to help them discover their favorite type of music. Besides listening to music, encourage your child to sing along too. Singing can help children maintain a steady rhythm and control the speed and volume of their vocals. Not to mention, they will have tons of fun discovering their voice.

  1. Toys That Inspire Creativity

When it comes to play, equip your children with games and toys that pique their imagination and inspire creativity. CoCo Melon Magna-Tiles are specially designed for little kids who adore singing along with JJ and his family. In addition to the adorable CoCo Melon range, the product line by CreateOn also includes Magna-Tiles in other designs, such as Dr. Seuss and Sesame Street. These toys can help reduce your children’s desire for screen time and will promote free play instead.

  1. Introduce Them to Musical Instruments

Children who have a natural passion for music might enjoy trying their hand at playing music. Picking up a musical instrument at a young age can be incredibly beneficial for kids. It can improve motor skills and cognitive awareness, and it has positive associations with academic ability. Furthermore, fanning the flames of their natural passion can help kids become more confident.

  1. Take a Trip to Your Local Library

Taking a trip to your local library can help your child develop a passion for reading. Encourage them to browse through the shelves and pick out the books that catch their eye. An afternoon reading at the library is a worthwhile activity that won’t cost a thing.

  1. Wildlife Discovery in the Garden

If you are blessed with a private outdoor area, why not send your kids outside to discover wildlife in the garden? Ask them to look out for different types of flora and fauna and to document their findings. Young children can record their findings by drawing pictures, while older kids might enjoy writing about their discoveries.

  1. Get Arty

Arts and crafts are a fantastic outlet for children who are bursting with energy. Create a dedicated art zone by clearing a space and covering the surface with newspaper. Give your child pencils, crayons, and paints, then give them space to get creative.
