Learn about How you Can Pepare for and Prevent the Flu in Your Home

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for MedImmune Specialty Care. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Oh the dreaded Flu season, oh how I hate it!  I wish I could just quarantine my whole family so none of us catch it.  But since that is impossible (and socially weird).  Since it has already begun and I can’t avoid it,  I instead will do my best to protect us all from getting it.20131121_144052

First things first, we all get Flu shots.  In fact, my children and I just got our Flu shots this morning at our local health department. (P.S. I got a Wile E Coyote band-aid, awesome!)  It’s great knowing we have the extra protection this year that the Flu shot provides.

Next, I make sure we keep the germs out of our home.  Right when we get home we wash or sanitize our hands.  Especially my son when he gets home from school.  School is like a breeding ground for Flu germs.

Elizabeth Pantley’s ebooklet, "A Parent’s Guide to Flu Season" is also a great resource for educating yourself about the Flu.  I highly recommend all parents read it.

I found this e booklet very informative and I learned a lot of things I didn’t know.  Like that children can spread the Flu (are contagious) for up to 7 days after symptoms appear.  And Flu germs can live on surfaces for up to 8 hours. Yuck!  A great reason to be sure to sanitize surfaces that are touched often like doorknobs, remotes, phones, etc…

While we may not be able to avoid the Flu, we can definitely do our best to prevent it.
