Merry Cherub app. Review

Rich original illustrations of animals are revealed when your baby touches the screen of your iPad or iPhone. Your baby or toddler is drawn to the exciting reveal effects, which include sparkly stars, rippling water, autumn leaves and twining flowers. Relaxing music gives Merry Cherub a soothing quality.

One Monk Clapping is a husband and wife team of Jacquin Buchanan and Cleo Dunsmore Buchanan. Like most things, necessity was the mother of invention. When we had to take our 4 month old son, Liam, on a 5 hour airplane trip we decided to download whatever apps we could that might keep him busy on the plane. We wanted something that was engaging, with a positive attitude and with some learning content. We found several apps to our satisfaction but not as many as we would like. So we thought let’s make some of our own.

We are definitely an app family. I love technology, and have started introducing my toddlers to this wonderful world. =) I love how many great educational apps for kids there are out there, and I’m going to tell you about one today- the Merry Cherub app. It’s a fantastically simple app that is great for kids of all ages. They are able to reveal a picture by using their finger. It’s sort of like when a digital frame changes from one picture to another, except your child is in control, and the effects are unique and fun! My boys love this- they can’t wait to shout out the name of the animal that is revealed. I love the great pictures that are so artistic. This is definitely a must have iPhone and iPad app for children! You will be thankful that you downloaded it the next time you are on a long plane ride or waiting room visit with a cranky baby or toddler!

Things that are Brag Worthy:

  • Merry Cherub’s developer, One Monk Clapping company has developed more similar apps, such as Natural Tots, Natural Tots Birds, Natural Tots Flowers, Natural Tots Scenery
  • Encourage multi-lingual skills
  • Once the animal is revealed, its name is spoken in English followed by the animal’s name in another selected language
  • Entertainment that is soothing
  • The images, music, and One Monk Clapping returns you to Nature, soothing and enriching, thru the digital world. Providing supportive, educational media for your child.
  • High resolution images specifically support landscape and portrait screen.
  • Reveal effects behave in a natural way no matter what orientation your child holds the screen.
  • Improve your child’s early stages of development
  • In early childhood development the infant progresses from knowing his or her world only through immediate sensorimotor experiences to being able to “experiment” on that world mentally, through the use of mental combinations and an understanding of object permanence.
  • The reveal effects help hand eye coordination.
  • Allows your child to see the cause and effect of their actions in the world around them.
  • Learning stays fun and interesting with more than 18 different pictures and music tracks.
  • Parental controls
  • A small press and hold button means settings are easy for a parent to access but not baby.
  • Independent volume controls for music, sound effects, and voice.
  • Choose all four reveal effects or repeat baby’s favorite only.

I have a degree in Early Childhood Education, and my life revolves around little people- I work as a nanny as well as being a mom. We live in Minnesota, therefore we love summertime. =) Life consists of lots of books, walks in the woods, church, friends, grandparents, Minecraft, football and soccer, music, play-dates, wine (only some of us), love, kisses, and of course, blogging.
