With MLK Day approaching on Monday, January 19th, Beth Amodio, President and CEO of One Warm Coat reminds us about how everyday acts of service can create meaningful change within our local communities.

When we think about MLK Day and the meaning behind the holiday, we’re reminded of the importance of showing up for our communities and caring for our neighbors. One Warm Coat embraces this spirit by encouraging coat drives and donations that provide warmth, safety, and dignity to children and adults during the winter months. With record low temperatures across many regions this season, the need is more urgent than ever.
Since 1992, One Warm Coat has helped distribute nearly 9 million coats through more than 1,500 nonprofit partners nationwide, while also keeping 22 million pounds of textiles out of landfills. Each coat collected stays within the local community where it’s donated, ensuring immediate and tangible impact.
- How simple acts like hosting a coat drive embody the values of service, compassion, and equity
- The growing need for warmth-related resources during winter months, and how communities can help
- Ways families, schools, and workplaces can turn MLK Day into a hands-on moment of giving
At a time where people are searching for a clear path towards helping others in their communities, One Warm Coat provides a clear and accessible path to service.
