Register Now: Summer Art Camp Vaughan | Hands-On Programs for Ages 5–14

If there’s one thing every child between the ages of five and fourteen has in common, it’s the desire to make things. To build, to paint, to shape, to create. That instinct is powerful and worth nurturing — and the best way to do that is through a structured, hands-on program designed to meet children exactly where they are. Summer Art Camp Vaughan serves children across a full nine-year age range with programs tailored precisely to each developmental stage, and registration for this summer is now open.

Hands-On Learning Is How Children Actually Grow

Research in childhood education is consistent on this point: children learn most effectively when they are physically engaged with their subject matter. Abstract instruction doesn’t stick the way experiential learning does. In an art camp setting, this principle is lived out every single day.

At our Vaughan camp, children aren’t sitting in rows listening to lectures about art. They’re standing at easels, their hands covered in charcoal. They’re pressing linocut blocks onto paper and pulling back the print to see what they’ve created. They’re rolling clay into forms that didn’t exist before they touched the material. Learning happens through doing, and our entire curriculum is built on that foundation.

Programming for Every Age, 5 Through 14

One of the most common questions parents ask is whether a camp can genuinely serve both a five-year-old and a fourteen-year-old well. The answer, at Summer Art Camp Vaughan, is yes — because we don’t run them through the same program.

Ages 5–7: Little Creators
Our youngest campers enter a world of sensory exploration and joyful mark-making. The emphasis is on process over product — how it feels to mix colors, what happens when you press different textures into clay, the delight of seeing a painting take unexpected shape. Instructors at this level are particularly skilled at maintaining enthusiasm and keeping energy positive throughout the day.

Ages 8–10: Growing Artists
This group moves into more structured skill-building while retaining the spirit of play. Children begin to understand concepts like composition, foreground and background, and the basics of color relationships. Projects become more intentional, and campers begin to develop a sense of personal artistic preference.

Ages 11–14: Young Professionals
Our oldest campers engage with art in a way that increasingly resembles a professional practice. They’re introduced to critique, revision, and the concept of artistic intention. They complete multi-day projects that require planning and sustained focus, and they’re encouraged to develop a personal visual voice.

What a Typical Day Looks Like

Parents often want to understand the rhythm of the camp day before they register, and that’s completely reasonable. Here’s a general picture of what children experience:

Mornings typically begin with a brief warm-up exercise — a quick sketching challenge, a color mixing experiment, or a visual observation game — designed to engage the creative mind before the main session begins.

The primary project block is the heart of the day. This is where campers work on their main piece, guided by instruction but also given genuine autonomy in their creative choices. Instructors circulate constantly, offering specific feedback and encouragement.

After a lunch break that includes structured outdoor time, afternoons often feature a different discipline or a complementary activity — perhaps a collaborative piece, an art history discussion, or a technique demonstration that campers then practice individually.

The day closes with a reflection period where children share one thing they discovered or decided about their work. This practice builds both verbal communication skills and the habit of thoughtful artistic reflection.

Registration Is Simple and Straightforward

We’ve worked to make the registration process as easy as possible for busy parents. The entire process takes place online and can be completed in under five minutes. You’ll choose your child’s age group, select the session dates that work for your family, and provide a few key details about your child’s experience level and any relevant needs.

Once registered, you’ll receive confirmation immediately along with a detailed welcome guide covering what to bring, what to expect on the first day, and how to reach us with any questions.

Why Vaughan Families Keep Coming Back

A significant percentage of our campers are returning students — children who experienced the program in a previous year and asked to come back. That kind of enthusiasm is the clearest possible signal that something meaningful is happening inside our doors.

Returning campers are placed in appropriate level groups regardless of their history with us, ensuring that they face fresh challenges each summer rather than repeating material they’ve already mastered. Many families enroll siblings at the same time, taking advantage of our sibling discount while giving their children a shared creative experience to talk about all year.

Spots Are Filling — Register Now

Each age group has a firm enrollment cap to protect the quality of instruction. Once a group is full, there are no exceptions. If your child is between five and fourteen and you want this summer to be one they remember, register for Summer Art Camp Vaughan today.
