Right Age for Kids to Start Learning Coding

Why Should Kids be Taught Coding?

A growing child learns faster and gets their base and concepts stronger rather than a grown-up adult. A work so technical involving computers and technology is quite a task and to execute it, a person should be content, focused and should have the right amount of knowledge and experience. To achieve this, coding should be taught from early ages to kids as a subject which will be beneficial for the kid as well as the society.

Technology has taken over the world and it seems that every other activity will involve technology. Today as well, every daily activity is operated by software, be it communication, online shopping, using a bank account, calculating walking miles, and a lot other. The increasing digitalization of world demands for coders who can create and operate software-based websites and applications.

A kid who learns coding will get massive job opportunities in future, learns to accept different challenges, helps them learn problem solving as coding requires the use of math to solve problem in a logical way, learns to overcome failure and sees it as an opportunity to learn, become creative as they learn to how execute a thought in a creativity. So overall, there is absolutely no reason why a kid should not be taught coding. Now there are a lot of ways a kid can learn coding through playful websites or the internet can also help finding a coding class for kids near you.

Right Age to Learn Coding for Kids

So far, we have concluded that kids should learn coding. Now the bigger question is, what is the right age to do that?

People would say that there is no age to learn and it’s better if the child is not burdened at a young age with coding learning as he/she is learning other stuff related to curriculum and after the age of 12, they will be more mature to learn the concepts. Whereas, according to most parents and experts, the right and ideal age for a child to learn coding would be around the age of 6 ranging from 2-7. This is the age when a child’s brain is active and it is capable of grasping new things quickly. In this age, a child usually is learning other activities like cycling, writing, studying and also it’s an appropriate age for learning a second language so why not learn programming? It has been found that in the elementary school age, children’s creativity level is at its peak and afterwards, it keeps declining. This is the right time to stimulate interest regarding coding in children and make them lean towards learning as this time children are free to use their imagination and creativity without any interference from society and peers. Many good programmers began programming at early ages of 5-6. If kids are taught at early ages, they will be able to learn easily in adulthood.

Conclusion

Hence, experts and research say the ideal age for a child learning coding is 6 and around on average. If kids are taught coding at an early age, even if they do not choose it as a career, they will still know how to think logically and be creative for a lifetime, which is worth it.
