I reviewed copies of these books for my review. All opinions are my own.
I am a big fan of Young Adult fantasy and romance novels. When I was giving the opportunity to read THE ARCHANGEL PROPHECIES series, I was very intrigued. I have read other ‘fallen Angels’ series and I wanted to see how these compared. THE ARCHANGEL PROPHECIES are very different than other series I have read.
THE ARCHANGEL PROPHECIES are about the relationship between Hope Carmichael and Michael, an archangel. Throughout the series, these two characters have to fulfill a prophecy that will save mankind and angels alike.
THE ARCHANGEL PROPHECIES has 3 books in the series. They are titled Dark Hope, Dark Rising, and Dark Before Dawn. It did take me awhile to get engrossed in this series. I had a hard time believing the romantic relationship between the two main characters Hope and Michael. I am glad that I stuck with it because by the time I was halfway through the second book in the series, Dark Rising, I fell in love with these characters. I definitely needed to be patient with how the relationship between Hope and Michael developed. By far, my favorite book is the final book in the series, Dark Before Dawn. I could not put the book down. I read it in one night.
I thought that these books were written very well. I think that Monica McGurk is a very gifted writer. These books had great character development and were very detailed. I also thought that the plot of this series was pretty complex. I liked that she was not afraid to make choices in the story that would sometimes make you mad as a reader. She knew that they would later be very important for the development and plot of the story. As a reader, I had to learn to trust her creative decisions as a writer.
Another thing that Monica McGurk has done in these books is bring attention to the horrible crime of human trafficking. I think it is great that she makes a hard, adult subject informational and relatable to youth. I will say because of this subject matter in the series, I would definitely say that this series is more appropriate for the older young adult audience. She brings in the horrible details of human trafficking, especially in the last book of the series. You can tell that Monica McGurk is passionate about this cause and as a reader, I loved that. A portion of the proceeds from the purchase of the first book in the series, Dark Hope, are donated to organizations to help fight human trafficking.
Overall, I thought that this series as a whole was definitely worth reading. I also really like the important cause THE ARCHANGEL PROPHECIES and their author, Monica McGurk fight for.
