Tried And Tested Measures To Control Your Sugar Cravings

Sugar cravings are natural as they are the body’s indication to regulate the blood sugar imbalance. It helps provide energy to the cells around the body. Sugar also helps metabolize fat; thus, preventing the body from using protein as energy for the brain and nervous system.

Nevertheless, too much of anything is bad for your body. Eating too much sweets can stress your heart- cause headache, fatigue, hunger, and anxiety. It further influences your healthy lifestyle. This brings us to the question- How to control your sugar craving? Continue reading to find out!

  • Eat Whenever You Are Feeling Hungry

First of all, you need to understand the difference between cravings and hunger. Feeling hungry is a sign that your body needs energy. On the other hand, cravings are a brain’s call for dopamine release in the reward system. If you are feeling hungry and craving at the same time, it will be quite challenging to resist.

In such a situation, you should consider eating a healthy and filling meal. Protein-rich foods like fish, eggs, and meat are great to curb hunger. Do not give in to the temptation of chocolate, brownies, donuts, and more. They might seem very inviting but are bad for your health.

  • Avoid Artificial Sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners increase the risk of cancer, affect your blood sugar level and gut health. Therefore, it is recommended to use zero calorie sweetener made of natural ingredients such as sugarcane. You can find numerous products like brown sweeteners, baking sweeteners, or canisters.

The use of natural ingredients will ensure that you need not limit your cravings. Instead, you can enjoy all your favorite desserts and sweets just as you like.

  • Take Hot Shower Or Bath

A recent study discovered that taking hot showers or baths helps provide relief from junk and sugar cravings. Make sure the water is not too hot to burn the skin, but at a temperature that causes discomfort (slightly higher than the temperature you usually use). Let the water run over your shoulder and back for at least 5 to 10 minutes.

This simple trick will provide your body relief and the same effects as sitting in a “sauna” for a long time. By the time you’ll be out of the shower, your cravings will be all gone.

  • Go Outside For A Brisk Walk

Another thing that you can try is going for a brisk walk. It will benefit you in two ways. First, you’ll distract yourself from the desire to eat. Second, walking or running will help release “feel good” chemicals or endorphins in your brain. Your stress level will reduce, and so will be your urge to eat or drink anything sweet.

Apart from brisk walking, you can try sets of burpees, push-ups, squats (preferred with weight), and any other weight exercises.

Wrapping It All Up!

Understand that starving yourself is not the solution to not eating sugary products or controlling cravings. Instead, you must focus on living a healthy lifestyle, using natural sweeteners, and eating well. Giving in to your cravings will only increase the desire and make it challenging to habit. So, take slow steps to resist sugary food.
