Story of the Chilean Miners ~ The 33 Movie Review ~ Opens in Theaters Today #The33 @The33Film

I attended an advanced screening of this film. All opinions are my own.

“The true story of the 2010 collapse of a Chilean mine and the rescue of the 33 miners who were trapped underground for 69 days.”

I remember the story of the Chilean miners from few years ago. I thought that this would be a good story to see on film. I really enjoyed watching The 33.

One of the reasons this movie works so well is because it has a great cast. Antonio Banderas as Mario Sepulveda, the “leader” of the 33 miners. His performance is authentic and leads the rest of the cast. Another stand out for me was Juliette Binoche as Maria Segovia. She is the sister of one of the 33 miners. Even though she was a supporting role, she gives a powerful performance.

Although I was familiar with the story from the news, I thought this movie had some very intense scenes, especially how the filmmakers depicted the mine collapsing. For being serious film, this movie had more comic relief than I was expecting. Although I thought it dragged a bit in the middle, I thought that this movie had a great storyline.

One thing that surprised me was that this movie’s soundtrack score was composed by the late James Horner. I thought it was a great score. The filmmakers actually dedicate the film to him. I thought that was nice and it was a great tribute.

Overall, there are no surprises when you watch The 33. It is pretty predictable but it is an inspirational film with great performances. I think it is worth watching.

The 33 gets bragging rights!

The 33 is now playing in theaters. It is rated PG-13 for “a disaster sequence and some language. For more information, you can go to the movie’s official website.
